00:00 What is the difference between past continuous and past perfect continuous?

1:02 EXPLAINED! Past Continuous Grammar
E.g. It was raining when I left the house.
We use the Past Continuous tense when a long and continuous action in the past was interrupted by a different, short action.

E.g. It had been raining when I left the house.
We use the Past Perfect Continuous when the long and continuous action in the past stops BEFORE the short action happens. It is not interrupted by this short action.

5:05 EXPLAINED! Past Perfect Continuous + Quantity of Time
When we state the quantity of time that the long continuous action was happening, we use the past perfect continuous tense.

7:11 Practice using these tenses

Great explanation- I'm an English teacher and I find the tenses really confusing even though I'm a native English speaker. Your video really makes sense and I feel more confident going through the tenses with my students.
