After 7 long months, we finally return to Red Dead Online with a new, major content update!. Today, we’ll take an in depth look at the Naturalist role! What are the various role xp and cash payouts? How do all of the different timers work when interacting with Harriett? Where are some key animals consistently located, and do we really have to completely fill out all of those Animal Guide screens? And of course, we’ll look at the fastest and most optimal way to reach max rank. We'll get into some crazy strategies that make this role a breeze, plus a look at how Free Roam Legendary Animals work, stuff you can safely ignore, and what to do AFTER hitting max rank! This game is what I possibly dreamed about 30 years ago while playing wild west with Playmobil

Harriett:
You don't eat meat, do you?
Me, stuffing my big game meat stacks in my saddlebags:
Uhhh, no?..

Harriet: I need you to explore the wild collecting samples so we can learn more about them.
Us: go to a nearby farm and bleed everything like the San Denis Vampire

So, 1) grind all the animals at the farms until you reach rank 5, then 2) use the legendary animal missions to fuel Cripps. Finally, 3) continue to grind the farms all the way up to max rank.
Got it!

Also a really good early game farming location is the swamps near Saint Denis as there are a shit ton of alligators everywhere and Harriet has her shop literally in a walking distance. The one con is that it takes like 8 shot to get the gators and also they have a tendency to go into water after you start sedating so just go as close as possible and just unload on them before they go into the water.

I've found 5 legendary animals. Not all have "clues", they are just there.
Pheromones do help a tad, once you see the question mark they will help you narrow it down, but more importantly they're harder to lose.

14:21 “now we have 45 minutes to kill” *killing animals causes Harriet to become increasingly mad with you*

You can quickly hit the 2 farms and the ranch collect sheep, bull and cow and pig samples turn in and repeat you hit the 2 farm locations you can level up about one role level roughly every two times if still putting some animals to sleep between farms and locations you can hit the role level up every time you make the run turning it roughly into a 22 trip to hit the max and run into hunting for the goodies...

If you actually listen you'll hear a clanking noise that lets you know you sedated it.

I started a new chatracter on PC (damnit R*, allow character migration from console!!) so I'm regrinding naturalist again. The wilderness camp is awesome now after earning the fast travel upgrade from the outlaw pass. It's a must have now. $1 for fast travel to your camp, excellent!

Wilderness camp is worth it now if you also buy the fast travel pamphlet from the fence.
Also, there's a bunch more farms around the map that you could just pin on the map & do the rounds if you're that dedicated

I've managed to find and kill (this was before I got the naturalist role) the following:
Legendary Midnight Paw Coyote
Legendary Mud Runner Buck
Legendary Ghost Panther
Legendary Wapka Boar
Legendary Zizi Beaver

I've found the Owiza Bear twice, but both times, another player came and took it.

Here’s my take a year later.

First, the camp is the only important thing to get because you can buy a pamphlet at the fence to fast travel from it.

To grind to level 5, first do a poacher mission from Harriet. You get good drops and can sedate the animals you set free. The mission itself gives you 100xp.

Next, head to Emerald Station in the Heartlands. Night or day doesn’t matter with a full load of sedative rounds. Head out across the heartlands sedating every deer, buck, pronghorn, buffalo, coyote, rabbit, and skunk you come across, turn around towards emerald station and repeat. Each sample will get you 50xp and you’ll have quite a few before you run out of ammo. Farm animals only give 25xp.

Using this method each trip should net you a level. It’s not that hard of a grind to get to level 5.

At level 5, who cares about Harriet outside of the legendary missions. Just kill them for Cripps, kill them for Gus, or continue to sedate them for Harriet.

Do the Naturalist dailies if you want, farm the Heartlands and Harriet’s Legendaries to max rank if that’s your desire. Honestly, most people could care less after rank 5 unless one of the cosmetics intrigues them.

I found 3 legendary animals in the first hour after buying the role, and not a single one since. After searching the marble fox I got the notification it had escaped, but I never got the notification that he was in the area. These legendary spawn points are either unreasonably rare or just broken, same difference imo.

that "Snake Eater"in the background just earned my sub also great content

I agree before wilderness camp is ''kinda'' not worth it but now for me it's kinda op because u can fast travel on it, if u have d outlaw pass
