Phyllis is the real deal folks! I know from my own personal, life changing consultation I did with her last year. A true expert in her field. Thank you Phyllis!

The video explaining how to chose the correct inner diameter for brass mouthpieces is illuminating and very well presented. I would especially recommend it for younger players but feel many teachers would benefit from the information presented in this brief video.

Wish I heard these tips earlier! I’m a horn player with thicker lips and struggled for years on similar mouthpieces as my teachers (many great horn players I observe tend to have thin lips). Moving to larger diameters has made a huge difference!

Good stuff! A good rule of thumb I learned from one of my teachers was to play as low a pedal note as comfortable. Then, choose the smallest diameter that allows you to do this while keeping the inner rim on the skin (out of the red) of both lips.

This video seems to fit trumpet players. For trombone we can double on tenor or bass with the same lips but much larger inner diameter on the bass. Very little air pressure develops inside the cup and the mouthpiece should fit the type of music and acoustic properties of the instrument, also to blend with the section.

Hello,
I am trying figure out the type of mouthpiece to use for tuba. I have an average lips, currently using Arnold Jacobs mouthpiece. I am having a hard time to play in higher range on my Bb tuba. Notes F, G, A and B are extremely difficult in second octaves. Lower range, I am satisfied with. What type and size of mouthpiece would you recommend for me to use? Thank you

I'm a horn player and I've been using a C8 mouth piece but I'm beginning to think I might need to take a look for a new mouth piece since It seems like I have fleshy lips. I've been doing pretty ok with it but I do find I've been having embrocher issues.

Next episode will talk about HOW to resolve these problems for players. I was awestruck to learn after 30yrs of incorrect mouthpiece sizes. There is hope yet to correct.
