what a car! for me the last true hot hatch. even by today's standard you can have 300 bhp s3s that won't leave you on any B road

I'm on my 3rd ep3 now so that kind of says that I think they are an awesome hot hatch... they are the last of the proper hot hatches no turbos t/c or silly gubbins just lots of revs and glorious induction noise plus a great gearbox !!

I has one new in dec 2001 (51 plate) It was number 0003? a really early one. When sold new it came with a Honda Mac Appreciation Course, Basically a ex police driving instructor came around and taught me and my mum how to drive it quicker! He was brilliant and had my mum driving through s bends 10mph quicker than I was.
The car did the daily ton and I had her flat out a couple of times. I even had her at 120mph in rain (not advisable). My favourite drive was Bolton to south West wales in 2hrs 45mins, On that day I averaged over 70mph and hardly hit a motorway.
The Type R is a definite stand out car. The Hot Hatch of the Millenium. I'm going to buy another this week.

I'm getting exactly this one, as it is in the video, tomorrow morning. The only catch is that I'm in spain, so I'm gonna be driving on the right on a left hand driving country. Only way to get it at an affordable price here. Still super thrilled about it.

Bought my EP3 new back in Jan 2005 Nighthawk Black.. Had it for 9yrs when it was rear ended and written off with 133, 000 miles on the clock.. and it was still pulling like the day I picked it up.. I then bought the Championship Edition FN2, had it for just over 3yrs.. The good thing about the FN2.. The split dash looks so futuristic, and the bucket seats are better.. End of!! The EP3 was so much more RAW in terms of how the VTEC came in, driveby wire, independent rear suspension...etc... I quickly traded the FN2 for an Astra J VXR Summit White.. I can honestly say that if the EP3 was still in production, I wouldn't hesitate about buying another EP3.. That car to this day has never left my thoughts... Seeing this video brings it all back.. As much as the VXR is a very fast car, nice seats, 20in alloys..etc.. its not as engaging to drive like the EP3.. The VXR.... You floor it the turbo spools up and you're away.. The EP3... Stir the gear box to bring in the revs, that then wakes up the VTEC, and then you need to keep the revs within the VTEC band to get the best out of the K20 block, thus making it much more engaging to drive.. and if you couple that with an open cone filter induction kit fitted just behind the front bumper... Just awesome..!!

Here in Canada/US we had that but it wasn't a Type-R. It had the 160hp K20A3 engne and a softer suspension and no sideskirt/lip. That's because we had the RSX Type-S which has the same chassis and suspension/engine/tranny as the Civic Type-R. I have a turbo RSX-S myself.

Changing my MK4 GTi for one of these soon. I've become quite used to low down torque but I'm looking forward to adjusting to a more engaging experience. Also hate how heavy and crap the Golf is handling wise.
