I probably watched this 1000 times as a kid. But this is the first time that i saw the two cars clip each other. You'll see that the right headlight in the first shot or two of the red car is hanging down and that when the first two cars pass there is stuff that is flying off.

Were there ever actually chicken tournaments, even back in the 60s/70s? I understand the concept of the game; and there's demolition derbies today; but I have never actually heard or seen about a chicken tournament.

1:30 Can you really blame the guy for ducking out? If he chickened out any later, it would have been a real accident. Watch closely, you'll notice they actually do come into contact, you hear a bang then you see a piece of debris go flying off to the side. Any later and somebody could have been injured or killed. That's really about as close as you absolutely, positively can get.

It's funny to see the Red Knight chickening out at 2:47 since he is considered as a champion with nothing causing him to chicken out sounding as if what the announcer was saying from 1:55-2:00. However, I learned that the reason he probably chickened out was because the closer he and Herbie got towards each other, he clearly saw and thought nobody was in control of driving Herbie causing Herbie to drive out of control giving the Red Knight a reason to chicken out to prevent from crashing.
