Ever heard the idea that martial arts black belts or golden gloves boxers have to register their hands as lethal weapons? Well I'm both and I never signed anything saying that. HOWEVER, it may work against you should you end up in court after a fight.

I expected "No!" followed by one minute and 23 seconds of barely suppressed giggling.

Black Belt is the begining of the path...

One point you should have covered is excessive force. This is where the lawyer can get you. If a person uses only enough force to protect themself, of another, so as to get safely away, then they would be safe in court case. However, when said "Black Belt" goes beyond that point and intentionally cause lasting damage or death, like kicking the person if they are on the ground, that is when they loose. A Black Belt should have the best understanding of when enough is enough.

You can still be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, but the hands themselves are not registered

My master told me that getting a black belt meant that it is the beginning.

I'm both too. and when i got my black belt in tae-kwon-do my instructor gave us black belt ID's and we were actually registered with the police department as being black belts.

It means the judge will put you to jail if someone finds out you are stronger than who ever you hit

I've been telling people this for years. My kungfu teacher said someone in California came up with this in order to get more students back in the 70's or 80's.

Typical of you to mention that you lost your first GG match. Always a class act.

my uncle actually had golden gloves and register fist and beat up a bully at school and almost lost his boxing training and almost was tried as an adult because of his fist but this was years ago when it was real and when they found out the kid was much bigger than my uncle and that he was picking on littler kids and that my uncle was just defending the kids he was let off but he still got into trouble with his couch for using his registered fist in a street fight

When I was younger I didn't think that you had to register your hands as lethal weapons when your a pro fighter in a sport. I thought that if you beat someone up you would be crucified in court for beating someone up while you are a pro boxer or mma fighter. Like you would have no chance to get a lesser charge than a serious assault charge. Like 1st or 2nd degree assault. Not assault with a deadly weapon. I thought the, "hand registered as lethal weapon" was a metaphor for, "if I beat you up im going to prison for a long time." Or I thought, "pro fighter have their hand registered as deadly weapons" ment that they where registered as a professional fighter in a sport. Regardless I always thought that was a metaphor and I didn't think that phrase was ment to be taken literally. Unless a Chad was saying it and they ment it literally

If the prosecution has your background information and knows that you do martial arts, they will most definitely use it against you in court.

A black belt signifies that one has put in enough dedication and effort to acquire a greater understanding and technical proficiency of the BASICS of a given style. By no means does it indicate a "master" or "lethal weapon" Having a black belt means you are knowledgeable enough to advance on your own in the martial arts.
