As an epidemiologist, I love how he builds up his argument.

He questions all underlying assumptions, all measurements, all possible correlations between independent variables (intelligence subtypes) and the dependent variable (success at university), testing methods, and interpretation of the outcome.

This is truly thinking over a scientific test from start to end, in able to draw a right conclusion. Most other people would be satisfied with skipping one of these steps and drawing a different conclusion.

I’d love to see Dr. Peterson talk more about so-called “emotional intelligence” and why it doesn’t exist.

I haven't ever heard a better explanation of IQ than this. Just brilliant

It's like a computer, it's not only how powerful the CPU is in it, it also matter how good the program is and what kind of data it have and how much you loaded in it that decides how useful the computer is.

I think IQ has great predictive value, but I have two questions: (1) What about developmental complexity? and (2) How do you explain verbal and math asymmetries on tests like the SAT?

I so wish I had Dr. Peterson for an instructor when I took this course.

He said Emotional Intelligence doesn't exist. Is there a video where he elaborates on this ?

I don't think there are such things as types of intelligence, but I do believe there are parts of intelligence as a whole, and mostly those "types" of intelligence can be simply called talents but they are related to intelligence overall
"Emotional Intelligence" is a part of intelligence as a whole and it requires empathy in order to understand your and others emotion, understanding your emotion helps you have better control over them, it's hard to be the strongest at your dad funeral if you don't have it. It does exist, but not as a different intelligence, is a part of intelligence
Is a matter of definition, they need to change it

doc could you and the Weinstein Brothers address your disagreements on the subject of General Intelligence and IQ? Thank you for sharing your insights. My thoughts are with you and your family in your time of chaos.

every time I watch a Peterson video I am reminded of "Being There".

I think it’s bizarre that IQ is a better predictor for university success than conscientiousness. University is a business that was designed to see if you can complete a tedious checklist, to see if you can do your chores. It’s not for intellectualism or problem solving. This goes for all of school, mostly. I remember getting assigned word searches and crossword puzzles for homework up until 12th grade

I want Jordan Peterson to be alive when (and if) we discover aliens. We would start to grasp what's going on in their minds

A sexual species would differ vs our species in planatary intellectual development.

Such a time frame in the universe would be interesting to understand if it exists.

Why and when did they stop using IQ testing in Ontario. I tried to get a copy of mine in the late 90's and was told the records were shredded and they no longer used IQ testing at all. Makes no sense to me.

Picks up a cup,
Doens't drink from it,
Puts it straight down immediately.

Now that's some high spacial/emotional intelligence,
corrected by social intelligence!

I personally feel intelligence is linked to accepting the fact you can also be a complete idiot. This opens you up to the possibility of learning as a constant.
Using statistics as measurement has proven to be flawed as these can be widely manipulated due to who is being measured. Ever seen an advert saying 9 out 10 professionals recommend this product? Was this question asked of 10, 100 or 1000 people. Stats offer generalisation, not facts

I have to disagree that there is no emotional intelligence. Certainly, those who are able to abstract their emotional experiences are better able to handle and control their reactions to them. I think Peterson has to study fast and slow thinking, automatic vs reflexive thinking. It is very apparent to me that IQ is a measure of reflexive thinking, and that experiencing your emotions reflexively is what emotional IQ is all about. Not acting on the fastest neural path, but allowing time for the reflexive mind to see things more clearly. Now IQ is a measurement of how fast the reflexive mind is, and it only stands to show that those who can do reflexive thinking more quickly are more liable to use it.
