Will Mother 3 ever be released?

One of most famous cases of a game not being localised, other than Mother 3, was Ace Attorney Investigations 2. And that was remade and released alongside the first game earlier this year.
Which doesnt really mean anything, it being a different company and all

Fun Fact: The night before the release of the Mother 3 Fan Translation, the crew behind it received a letter from someone in the games industry telling them not to release it because “It would be better than anything they could make”

if the game ever got remade, i’m extremely certain that it would get localized considering Nintendo nowadays basically localizes every game they put out even when don’t have great sales potential.

The only game i can think of from the Switch era that didn’t get released full worldwide would be the Switch’s Brain Age and it’s apparently only because a similar app got sued in recent memory for claiming to “train your brain”.

In that book Reggie made about working for Nintendo he basically admitted that they almost localized Mother 3 for the Wii U VC but things got messy once Iwata died and the project got cancelled.
This tells me they have the power to localize it at any moment, they just aren’t probably because they had trouble fitting the translation into the confines of a GBA cartridge size (this was mentioned in the book as well and the people who made the fan translation had a similar issue for a while until one member came and got everything working well I think that member of the community passed away a few years ago tho so rip)

I think there wouldn’t really be a major change to the story if it got remade. The issue is mostly to do with the music. Japanese parody copyright laws are a lot less strict and a lot of the songs have recognisable parts of others. Most notably is Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” in Natural Killer Cyborg. They tried to release the soundtrack outside of Japan before, but the copyright laws aren’t the same and they’d have to obtain the music rights for it to release without an issue. But as I mentioned before, when you got music like Michael Jackson in the mix, the costs can vary from thousands to millions.

If it is remade, the most major difference would probably be a different soundtrack, which may or may not affect gameplay in terms of multiple hit combos. But that’s all I would expect. I’ve heard people say the Magypsies might be controversial but I don’t think it would be too much of an issue.

In my opinion, an official localization by Nintendo would be cool but it’s kinda pointless because we already have the fan translation that people outside of Japan mainly play when they want to play the game.
A remake would DEFINITELY be cooler and better though honestly because it would be in a new style and could get lots of people playing it for the first time since it’s new.
Also if Mother 3 were localized, I feel like it wouldn’t feel as great as the original since I feel like a lot of stuff would be edited or censored.

My biggest hopium is thinking that Nintendo one day will release a "Mother Anthology" game with all 3, with the official localized Mother 3 included

They may need to cut a lot of the original music and remake it but I really hope for this outcome

my biggest concern with a Mother 3 localization is the idea that they might censor a few things and sanitize the story compared to the fan translation, but no one can say for sure this'll be the case and there are some.... *ahem* problematic things that might be made better with a localization, but i'm just not sure how i feel about it personally

Just play the fan translation, it’ll be more faithful to the original story than whatever Nintendo changes it to

In my opinion, it it were to be remade, it would be extremely likely that remake would get a localization. That was the case with games like Live-A-Live (which is a game which the director of Mother 3 did quite a bit of work on), Ace Attorney Investigations 2, some of the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games, and Nintendo has also done this before with the Famicom Detective Club games.
I don't think Nintendo would have motivation to localize the original specifically since it's now considered to be a game on a retro console, but I feel that the other issues wouldn't be as big of a deal when other Nintendo games with similar "controversial" aspects have been localized, and Nintendo has a lot of music outside of the Mother series that riffs almost blatantly from other pieces.
In my opinion, it's less of a matter if a remake of Mother 3 would get localized, and more if a remake would release at all.
