I grew up in Thailand and lived there for 20 years before I came to Canada, and believe it or not I never had khao soi even once. Not sure I even knew about it. Back then khao soi was a strictly regional to Northern Thailand, and even Thai people outside of the North rarely got access to it.

Today, it’s become popular beyond our borders, and I’m not surprised cuz it’s one of those dishes that many fall in love with the first time they have it.

Good news is it is not hard to make a great khao soi at home! There are a few components to prep if you want a fully loaded version, but everything is straight forward, AND everything can be made in advance. It also keeps well so you can enjoy it throughout the week.

Lived in CM about 8 years ago. Lowkey blew my mind how good all the food was, including khao soi. I went on a mission to try the best khao soi in the city. My only gripe was that the portions were too small, I felt like I needed two to fill me up!

I think it has gained serious popularity, and rightfully so. It's very delicious. I have other Thai dishes which are higher on my list than khao soi, but it is certainly up there as a favorite. Interestingly, a lot of my favorite Thai foods are northern Thai. Khao soi, gaeng hung lay, and nam prik noom are all among my favorites.

I love papaya spicy salad but I hate that Thai people add fish or crabs or shrimp in it everywhere as Vegan it's surprisingly hard to find animal free products in this budhistic country, there are some good soy milks tho and the fruits are the best I ever had, love durian 😍👍
