Sweden’s name literally just means ”the land of the Swedes”. But we do have a fun origin story for the name…
There were two people who were joining forces to create a country, they were the Swedes (svearna) and the Geats (götarna), and they fought to determine which people would name the country. The Swedes won so the country was named Sverige (Svea - rike) which translates to Land of the Swedes.
