it was persona 5 vanilla that revitalized my interest in jrpgs and propelled modern jrpgs to become my favorite video game genre ever. since first playing it in 2019, they are around 80% of the games that i play. And, it was my interest in finding more modern jrpgs to play that led me to your channel. cheers to modern jrpgs!!

Yakuza like a dragon was one of the biggest surprises for me. Was not expecting to fall in love with it.

How shin megami tensei v keep getting overlooked is crazy that game is one of the best RPGs of the last decade

Glad someone finally talked up the really personal stories that Octopath traveler does…All anyone ever says is “it’s not interconnected” And they lose the point of the storytelling that’s in the freaking game in the first place!

Yakuza Like a Dragon is how you reinvent a beloved series, such a great game and experience ❤
I have in my backlog P5 and DQ XI, I can't wait to play them!!
Chained Echoes and Octopath look great btw 👀

Not having Shin Megami Tensei V on this list kinda crazy

Since the first time playing Chained Echoes I'm hooked for life... It is such an incredible game. Also dying for the release of Octopath Traveler II since I played the demo. I'm just a big fan of good oldschool feeling JRPG's.

I still kind of feel bad about skipping out on "Fuga", especially after hearing that it massively underperformed. While I wouldn't say I was excited for it, I was still somewhat interested but it being digital only unfortunately was enough to be a deal-breaker for me.

Thankfully the series is still being continued with a sequel already on the way so it's not all bad. Hopefully that one fares better.

DQ11 is so good. One can only hope the entire series gets released on PC or other modern consoles.

I seriously have no idea about the list while watching and so when he mentioned the top 1, hearing that iconic DQ sound, gave me goosebumps as I recall my time playing it on my switch. Such a simple good game. Very Iconic.

I actually kinda liked sword and shield the first time I played through. It had an open world feel. Scarlet and Violet were actually open world and I found myself getting bored of them pretty quick. Also Monster Hunter 2 was a huge surprise for me as well. It took me a while to finally play it but once i did, I couldn't believe i didn't play earlier. Great game!

Trails and persona are the best turn based jrpgs imo.. but crossbell arc games from trails are truly special. Hype for the release of azure next week.

I'm completely with you for Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Trails From Zero and Persona 5 Royal. I think Dragon Quest 11 is a great game, but I had a bit less fun with it than the former games. I respect your opinions about the rest of the Legend Of Heroes series, but I personally had fun with all of them. Anyway - If I would name a turn-based series that gave me loads of fun, that that would be the Atelier series. They are obviously not for everybody, and all that Alchemist stuff can be boring for some, but for me it was a blast to play them. Especially after a stressful day. The last turn-based one, Atelier Sophie 2, had me hooked from start to finish. The upcoming Atelier Ryza 3 is not turn based, but I hope that after that one they will go back to the turn-based concept (to be fair - I had a great time with the Ryza games too).

If you're not playing "Sea Of Stars" right now, you're seriously missing out on a gem.

Chained Echoes is so fun. And it's on Switch, so you can play it on the go. And if you like supporting indie devs, well, it's an indie game. So....get it.

I'm playing DQ11 right now and I absolutely love it. It's like an SNES/early ps1 era jrpg that keeps almost all of the conventions of that era but has just the right of modernization in just the right ways. As you said, the writing for the characters is excellent and the world-building is top tier. It's an incredibly immersive experience.

Having Like a Dragon so low on this list should be an actual crime 😭😭😭 That game + chained echoes are easily the best on this list. P5R is up there as well... I've heard good things about DQ XI but the start was just way too slow for my liking so I ended up dropping it

Honestly if Honkai star rail is anything like Genshin with some persona elements in it, i can see it becoming a really solid turn based rpg
