Here is a short info video with the answer......
FYI, The normal modern cartridge, like the .338LM is called rimless, slightly larger rim than a rebated rim but effectively the same as for this conversation.

I literally do not understand how y’all don’t have millions of views.

That’s fantastic information, I’ve been full length resizing with a .002 shoulder bump on my 7 Mag, and never even even thought about the belt. Seems like I’ve been accidentally doing it right🎉

Also cannot wait for the next precision 45-70 video. That’s an awesome build!

I've never understood why people have so much trouble reloading belted cartridges. Like you say, just treat like anything else and you're good to go.

Thank you very much!

I’ve always wondered why belts existed and was always told (by the guy at the gun store) “they are to handle more pressure”. That never made sense to me from an engineering perspective.

Your explanation makes perfect sense and was crystal clear. Thank you!

Once more, thank you for accurate, concise and useful information. I'm a big fan of 7mm cartridges and considering to get a 7mm Rem Magnum and was a bit wary about the belts but this has given me some courage. Cheers!

It is nice to have a short, concise video about this.
It is amazing how many people will not accept this.

I started long range shooting 2 years ago, 1000yds max so far. Im self taught, including handloading, with just basic experience from hunting in my younger years to go on. I do ok, nothing amazing but improving and learning all the time.
I've learnt almost everything off the internet but by far the biggest and best source of useful easy to understand information is your channel.
Especially on the few occasions of been off down some pointless rabbit hole of BS I've found something from you guys that just clarifies the subject.
Many thanks

Mark your the man! Saw a few of your videos about a year back and decided to buy my first long range rifle, now completely consumed with the idea. Love the videos, I’m doing my best to share your channel with anybody who will listen!

Well said, I like how you explained it, that will certainly help newcomers to reloading and stuff to understand what’s going on

Great video and good information. As an avid shooter of a few belted magnums I would only add that there’s a company out there reloading technologies that makes a belted magnum collet resizing die that keeps the brass from developing case bulging in your brass.

Definitely has extended the life of my brass.

I've had great success with 300WM belted case.
My all-time favorite accuracy/distance cartridge is 6.5x284 norma with Berger bullets! Truly amazing stuff.

Thanks for turning a non shooter in to a gun nerd. Have read and heard these terms for decades and finally understand what everyone was talking about. Thanks again.

Love my belted magnums. Currently own a .257 weatherby, 300 win mag, and .358 Norma mag.

One thing that’s nice, especially for the .358, is that as I have to form cases from other brass, usually .300 win or .375 Hh brass, headspacing off the belt means I have little to worry about. Just reform through the dies full size, trim, load, shoot.

I have in fact had some “fussy” headspacing when forming rimless bottleneck cartridges from other parent cases (8x57 Mauser from .30-06)

Excellent information Mark. Learned something new. I used to think belts were a good thing. Pants like cartridges work best when properly sized and designed. I have a Remington 700 in 7mm RemMag and that belt has been very problematic. Cheers

Yet another information video, no nothing about belted rounds and now I do. Great stuff.

I had known that as I'm a reloader also. And up until recently had a TC Encore with 14" 7.62x39 pistol barrel. But also had a Bullberry barrels stainless 1" full bull in .300 win.mag, w/ a custom thumbhole stock. Was a beautiful tack driver. But while deciding years ago and talking a guy at Bullberry, he said a belted magnum would Not be his choice .Simply because of the extraction of the Encore and no other real reason. And I believe .300 ultra did away with the belt and did head spacing the traditional mrthod. Corrections or comments welcome. Love your channel. 👍

Only thing that stands out in my mind, Belted magnums don't feed as efficiently as sometimes the belts will stack up and force cartridges around. I think most modern magazine designs account for this, and deal with it. But that's kinda behind the push behind a lot of newer cartridges being beltless. Thanks Mark, always good to hear from ya.
