Chemotherapy is NOT used for APML, it isn't like it's in early stage so she won't need it!

If you have to get acute leukemia, APL is the type you want. The arsenic and atra (aka vitamin A derivative) treatment is brutal and usually requires a month long hospital stay because it drops blood counts and can cause really dangerous differentiation syndrome, but people usually do alright and then they go and continue treatment outpatient and are cured most of the time. I work in hematology/oncology, and our APL patients usually do so well. The first month is terrifying by after that, it gets so much better and we never see them inpatient again.

Life can be cruel, very cruel. I was widowed after 8 weeks and 2 days of marriage. Live life to the fullest because you never know when it could be taken from you.

I work in an pediatric hospital and the year before the arsenic was introduced we lost all new pacientes with this diagnostic but one. We didn’t lost one single paciente since and they barely have any complications anymore, they don’t even lose hair. It was bizarre to prescribe arsenic in the beginning, but was truly a gamechanger

They treat that with vitamin a (that's fine) and ARSENIC!?!
What was the thought process of the chemists that came up with that? "Not one of the dead rats we have ever poisoned with arsenic has that type of cancer, so that should work"? 😮😅

My mom's sister and her husband were married for 25 years, when she suddenly got diagnosed with aggressive cancer. She died within 2 weeks after her diagnose. That was on their 25th anniversary day, 10 years ago. My uncle remarried a few years later and we were so glad to see him happy again. Now his wife got diagnosed with a brain tumor. Luckily, its not in the end stadium yet, and still treatable, she already had a few surgeries and it's looking good so far. But he's terrified that he'll have to go through the same again.

CarT cell therapy is the latest breakthrough with almost 100% survival rate. It is extremely expensive though.

As Indonesian the first thought came to my mind when she's suddenly bleeding out of nowhere is "oh someone got a grudge at them so they santet the wife!" after hearing the explanation tho, oh I guess it more made sense 😅😅😅

APL is literally treated with all trans retnoic acid (ATRA) a vitamin A derivative. Its not the worse news, its treatable.

In my town there was a man that in the day of his wedding, while he was dancing with the bride, she collapsed. Apparently she had a deadly stroke and died at the moment.

My dad also had APL. Finding it early is the biggest blessing. Completely treatable with tretinoin and ATO, it’s almost weird to refer to it as the “good leukemia.” It’s been 4 years and my dad’s blood tests have been clean as a whistle.

I’m glad she was able to enjoy her wedding and honeymoon before getting too sick. I’m glad they caught it too
