Local SEO Landing Pages: How I Build City Pages That Rank #1 on Google

Here you will learn how I build local SEO city pages that rank on Google for my client in the medical niche.

Local city pages are very important if you want to drive more local traffic to your website which will in return lead to more calls, leads, and business.

In order to rank for other cities outside of your area, you have to layout a very strategic SEO plan in order to be successful when targeting other locations near you.

Here are the steps that I take when building out a new city page for my clients.

- Proper URL structure
-More than 300 words
-Unique content
-A unique title and meta description
-Relevant content to that area

Thank you. Dos this simple approach still work in 2023? If you are building a site with WordPress, how would you build these pages? Using categories, tags or parent pages. Or simply creating the page, using the right url? Also do you link to these pages internally and build external backlinks to them?

great information. If every city has a different phone number then should we add relevant phone number of that city on the individual city page's navigation instead of having a same phone number in the navigation of all city pages?

What do you do for the GMB landing page to optimize it. Should the landing bage reflect the GMB categories, services, cities served? Most people link to the home page but what if you created a city page for the town you address is in and linked to that in the gMB, would that help? My home page is optimized for the large city 15 miles away. Is it ok that my gmb links to a page that is not optimized for the suburb im located in? Or I could create a landing page with my town in the url, and then from that landing page link to my other city pages, etc.

For service provider what is the difference between location and city for the url? Would they not be the same thing?

Hey Pat, I’m doing SEO for a service based business providing work across the state. I’ve made GEO in the past, but here’s my Q that I can’t find a solid answer to.

If I’m creating GEO pages for the same service, do you set canonical tags to the “Main service” page, for instance it would be on the main nav?
