It's not the fact that they tried to show a human and emotional side to 117. It's the fact they did it in such a way that feels forced on the player. We all know spartans have emotions. But they have the mental robustness to suppress those when needed. When chief has flashbacks to Halsey and felt a bit confused and a bit emotional in infinite, that was perfect. But they a lot of the time they just straight up made him an emotional rollercoaster.
