The Boyd Belt System

Aging in jiu-jitsu isn’t easy. One day Uncle John failed to meet the expectations he set for himself on the mat and was ready to quit, until I explained this to him…

Save this video and be sure watch it if you start having negative thoughts about your performance, and be sure to tag your favorite training partners so they can lean on the Boyd Belt System if they need it. 🙏🏼

I love that John's memory is being kept alive. He proctored my blue belt test. Never far from memory.

Rener always gives off such good dude vibes. Pure class and professionalism. Rest in peace Mr. Boyd. 🙏

Man, I didn´t know the whole history and all about Boyd. But I saw one video of you saying that things about the years. I am 50, brown belt and I use that a lot in my mind. Tks

I love this! I’m 34 and have cerebral palsy. I’ve been doing bjj for 2 years and still get destroyed by everyone haha. Someday I’ll figure out how to turn my weakness into a my greatest strength on the mats!

This is how you stop the 'magic' myth from surrounding belts!

As a 4 stripe purple belt 2 months shy of 51 (with 2 knee surgeries (need another 1) a shoulder surgery and currently a torn labrum in my OTHER shoulder) makes me feel rejuvenated every time I hear this. I think about it all the time I get down a little bit and might have a bad roll against someone younger or bigger OR BOTH and then I think about what Rener said HOW BAD would I have got destroyed WITHOUT BJJ. 😂 I heard this a few years ago but didn’t know about the history of the origin. VERY CLASSY ACT by naming it in his honor and sorry for the loss of your friend. ❤😢

As a grown man who weighs under 135 lbs., this concept really helped me put things into perspective when rolling with guys outweighing me by 50+ lbs. I was also over 40 when I started BJJ. Rener went through this more thoroughly in a longer form video a few years ago called "Jiu Jitsu after 40."

Enjoyed hearing Andrew Branca talking about this on the Law of Self Defense. Excellent points!

When you explained the concept of belt and weight I totally got a memory from when it was explained to us the exact concept in basic training was at fort sill Oklahoma home of field artillery combat mos (army) 2004 good times I stood with this style up too 2016 haven't stood since? Would like to get back at it real talk...last match I had was in my last unit after getting off active duty with 1/346LSB 191 INF BRIGRADE GREAT MEMORY FOUGHT A GUY IN IRAQ THE SOLDIERS SAID was hard to beat he lay on ya beat that form with Gracie form fought in my back because of them saying that 2009-2010 3/2 ID 1/37FIELD ARTILLERY REGIMENT all my fights I had were submissions but almost all were broke up they would turn into fights period....

I roll with bigger guys who are 20 years younger than me regularly. It's all good. Just roll.

So what you're saying, is that if I gain 40lbs, I'm a black belt. Sweet.
