When the job market is saturated with people that have degrees, then degrees are less valuable

No one can find a job right now. I have blue collar experience served in the military and have certifications. Yet I can't find a job.

I made a "C" on my first graduate invertebrate paleontology exam, the rest of the class failed it miserably. I determined to study harder, which I did and eventually made an "A" in the course. My fellow classmates, on the other hand, complained that the course was too hard. The professor was confused. He was a former chief geologist for a major petroleum company and was simply teaching the information that geologists needed to know in order to get hired. Degrees are worthless pieces of paper unless you have obtained the knowledge and skills that employers are looking for in their new hires.

I never understood why so many of my classmates were taking financial and career advice from teachers and guidance counselors with broken down cars and hige debt?

Unless one intends to pursue a STEM degree, lawyer, accountant or engineering, college is a waste of money and time. 90% of college degrees these days are useless.

Edit: I didn't expect my comment to get so many likes and replies. Wow, folks.

You know it’s bad when they don’t say what the degrees are in

I'm a Canadian and its no better here. I and my daughter spent over $40000 CDN sending her to university. Her degrees were virtually useless and she ended up as head receptionist at a car dealership . Her major was phsycology.

I am going to graduate with my Bachelor's degree next week, and when I started college, my parents always told me that my first job after college wouldn't give me big pay. It's sad because when I talk to graduating classmates, they are in debt, expect to get corporate jobs that would pay them either six to five figures, and don't expect to struggle to find a job. Now, since graduation is coming close, I am so grateful that I have a job lined up, and I don't have to worry about waiting for 5-6 months to apply and look for a job, but I know people who are struggling to get a job. I agree with the guy who stated that networking is needed now for new graduates.

It's so crazy to think that an entire generation of parents thought forcing their kids to go to college was a good idea. You really just can't trust any type of authority.

For those wondering, her two BA degrees are Criminology and Organizational Psychology - from Rider (NJ) and Westchester (PA).

I’m retired military and i recently graduated with a Bachelors in Computer Science. I’m still trying to get a job 5 months later…on base…everyone wants experience but no one is willing to let you earn it. I’ve had to lower my standards and i might have to answer phones for a while…but my kids will have food on the table if I do.

I have 15 years experience, more than half military, in IT and security. I have two degrees, 4 certifications, and have been laid off since January. I can't even get an interview.

I went to school for Mass Communications. I got hands on experience for TV broadcasting, camera operations, video editing, audio editing, did my internships, and graduated with academic honors. I filed out almost 200 applications and got ghosted on every single one.
Waste of money for me.
