Reminds me of a new hire who told me he was trying to decide what to do on "spring break"! Wasn't happy when I reminded him he was a big boy now and didn't get a spring break.

Parents are the problem. It all starts at home.

College panders to students with feel good classes and theories and when they get a job they find out what work really is and they weren't taught actually life skills.

I'm starting to think that most colleges need to be closed and replace with trade schools. Too many that think they should work at a desk and keyboard, and they are not up to that sort of task at all.

They are also intellectually incapable of a job. Geraldo Rivera asked a bunch of college seniors "you've been driving 60 miles per hour for one hour - how far have you driven?" Many couldn't answer.

When the workplace discourages you from engaging in your addiction while on the clock, you tend to feel anxiety, stress and depression.

There are lots of kids graduating college that have the idea that because they have a degree they should just walk into their dream job with a high salary. They have to paid their dues like the rest of us and learn to appreciate what they learn in real life.

Wait till they discover a 9-5 doesn't exist and it's actually 9-6; but you get an hour off for lunch.

Students today are used to getting rewarded whether they work hard or not (everyone gets a "participation trophy"). The workplace should be a wake up call - a place where you ONLY get rewarded for hard work, but the HR departments of many large companies are populated by graduates of woke universities, and it is becoming more difficult to get rid of poor performers. Ironically, we are not training young people to be more productive - instead, the kids are training the work places to become more juvenile.

When I first started working in my 20s, if I told one of my coworkers that I had to work 72 hours last week, they would typically respond "is that all?"

As a division head, I had to do the hiring and firing of my staff. Amazing what you heard; "I really want this job but I can't work Sundays or Wednesday nights and I could never work 3rd shift. It just wouldn't work into my schedule. Also, I will need two weeks off next month because I am going to Europe with my Parents! Thats when I would smile, rip up their job app and show them the door! They couldn't understand why they didn't get hired!

I always fold laundry or wash dishes when I need to get away from the crazy world for a short time. Do some of my best thinking washing dishes. They aren't experiencing anything we didn't experience... what is different is that they expect to be treated like they are fragile little angels and so very special. They aren't angels and they aren't special. Life teaches you not to be fragile.
No more than I was an angel and special. Welcome to adulthood, kids.

I worked part time while getting my degree . I never skipped a beat and was totally ready to leave home in 72 . To get my own place and go to work full time. I don’t remember any of my friends feeling any different.

Not just college grads. I work with several “twenty-somethings, ” none of whom have a degree. Most of them spend their time looking for ways to get out of work and can’t be depended on to wipe their own butts……

I graduated last year and I happily managed to find a job in my field. Very sad to know so many others aren’t ready for, or can’t, work for various reasons.

At 16 years of age, I quit school and entered the workplace. At 17 years of age, I was in the military - working and continuing my education. Before leaving the military, I earned an Associate's degree in Electronics Technology. After leaving the military, I worked, supported a family (that I began while in the military), earned a second Associate's degree in Technical Communications, and then went on to achieve a Bachelor's degree in Communications.

(One) problem with today's young folks is lack of guidance, lack of spirit, and lack of soul. While that is not true of all young people, the prospect of becoming a true human being is beyond their comprehension, and unfortunately, competence. And that's all I have to say about that.
