========= 1916 LYRICS ==========

Sixteen years old when I went to the war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Was a long enough life for a soldier,

We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
And the day’s not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names
And that's how it is for a soldier.

========= Historic Fact ==========

Resulting in around 300,000 fatalities, the Battle of the Somme is considered one of the bloodiest and deadliest conflicts of the First World War and in human history. The battle, which was fought between British and French forces versus German forces, kicked off on July 1, 1916, and ended on November 18 that same year.

Motorhead's "1916" was my uncles favorite song. He recently took his life due to PTSD he got in Afghanistan. It has hit my father and I quite hard. This has meant a lot to us. Thank you

My father served in VIETNAM . He went through HELL. My mother said when he was being shipped out to Vietnam he held her tight and cried after 2 years he came home, my mom said he was 100 percent stranger. She grabbed him in a hug and it was like holding a statue. 😢 He suffered from PTSD depression and many health problems. problems. He fought the government 10 years for help he was always denied. Sadly he passed in 2018 age 71. I miss him very much.

This song is not a only a tribute to the soldiers of the great war, this is a tribute to all soldiers that fought, roman, carolean, spartan, French, british, polish, soviet, prussian and etc.
Respect not only to the combatants of the great war, but to all combatants of any war, we may never forget.

I'm a combat vet, Iraq and Afghanistan. This brought tears to my eyes unlike any song you ever released before. Thank you, and please, never stop making the music like you do. All my brothers in arms deserve their stories to be told

As a former US Army soldier this made me cry, it really touches your soul. Thank you Sabaton for another amazing song and tribute to Motörhead.

The original song is Lemmy singing accompanied by a bass drum and a cellist. Very simple and very powerful at the same time. This arrangement takes nothing away from the original and adds so much depth to the story. I think Lemmy would have loved it.

I saw you portrayed Sikh soldiers fighting alongside the British in world wars, very few actually know the massive volunteer contribution from India to Britain during both world wars. And our indian tricolour being flured at end, gave goosebumps . Thanks sabaton loved it !

Some random dude: real men don't cry.

Sabaton: hold that thought.

I was a soldier with the US Army in Iraq. What got me, besides the obvious from the lyrics, was the end. The soldiers all moving through the crowd, because they have to finish the journey. The crowd stops, because they can't follow. And the kid, looking up, knowing that the path ahead is unknown, and he shouldn't have been able to see that far down the road yet, but he must walk it anyway. And then they silently move off into the fog, marching into forever.

My name is Michael, and I'm U.S. Marine vet that served in the mid-90s. I never saw combat, but I have family and friends who did. It really doesn't matter whatever flag, nation, or cause that your fighting for, ALL wars are brutal hell and ALL families are devastated when they get that knock on their front door (or phone call) and told that their loved one has been killed or is missing in battle.

No politics here... just rememberence. All military personnel irregardless of nationality, sex, creed, color, and background who dies in battle is a fallen warrior in my book. That's how they should be remembered.

Sabaton, thank you for mixing military history with metal. Your music is beyond awesome, and please keep doing what you're doing.
May our loving God bless and comfort every family around the world who have lost loved ones in battle.

In a time where the world is going mad, Sabaton does everything they can to remind us of how we can choose to learn from past mistakes and avoid those terrible costs.

We are all humans, regardless of where we come from, what we believe in, and what we look like. We can all work together to end such horrible levels of destruction.

Thank you, Sabaton.

As US Army veteran, this made me cry—tears of pain, tears of sorrow, tears for those I know I will never forget, tears for those I’ve loved and left behind. Thank you Sabaton.

The moment the soldiers vanished broke me down to tears. We may no longer remember their names, but we shall never forget.
Thank you Sabaton, and keep doing an awesome job.

This song brings tears to my eyes. It is a hauntingly beautiful punch to the guts. Just like Christmas Truce, I come back to it. It is important to remember those who fought and acknowledge what that loss meant for their families.

YOU ARE NOT PREPARED! As a veteran, no matter how many times I listen to this song, it always makes me cry. I never saw combat in my entire career, but I know of many who did.

War. War never changes.

A wonderful tribute to any and all soldiers throughout time, with an especial focus on the british forces of WW1... I cried. Thank you, Sabaton.

Absolutely perfect tribute to Motörhead, great idea to have Lemmy's picture in the video, along with the band member's presence.
And then the inclusion of soldiers throughout all history, title might say 1916, but the message remains true in every war.
You guys did it again. You made a masterpiece of a music video. Whole crew and actors who made it possible deserve a medal.
