What REALLY happened to Zuko’s mother?

Wish this part got animated. It really went to show the comics still expanded the story as while peace ended the show they still had to help restore order across the world

Oh, I just assumed that she gave her own life as a sacrifice instead of Zuko.

I actually wish the comic ended with Ursa not getting her memories back. The ending I would have gone with was to have Zuko realize she was at peace and happy, so he chooses not to tell her the truth that would only bring back such harsh memories of Ozai. Maybe a future comic can have her turn up to reunite with Zuko, revealing that Ikem told her everything and went to find the Mother of Faces a year later to give back her memories. But otherwise, I think a bittersweet conclusion would have been more fitting for the Search comic.

I saw someone say this on tumblr, but why isnt Ursa part of a power noble family if she is a descendant of Roku? It would be interesting if she wasnt just a random woman but almost as ambitious as Ozai, making it even more impactful that she gave all that up for her children

Honestly, there have been some epic fanfic out there that carried through with the theme that Ursa was a loving protective momma bear- I mean, it's her name. I don't blame anyone who puts the comics into fanon discontinuity. It really felt like it went out of its way to try and discredit everything we knew about her. Especially her line about not forgetting who you are. I don't think anyone particularly cares that she went on and decided to live a new life, particularly, but that she would choose to forget the children she left. While you could make the argument that we need more complicated mother figures and that motherhood does not convey virtue, Ursa's decisions and actions were fucking badass and I wanted to see that expanded on, instead of what we got.

Besides the Mother of Faces, I can't say I loved the comic. The characterizations seem all slightly off, and I'm not a fan with the story they cooked up for Ursa. If I could change only one thing, I'd choose for Ursa to not regain her past memories. It's sad for Zuko and Azula, but they had already lost her mother, and they got their closure by finding out what happened to her.

The Search is my favorite of the graphic novels. I liked how the told Ursa's story in that.

Slight correction: Ozai didn’t just stroll into town and pick “the hot one” from the crowd. She was chosen as Ozai’s bride because they discovered she was descended from Avatar Roku and believed the blood of the Avatar would strengthen their bloodline.

As much as I like this comic, I dont think it makes much sense that Ursa would agree to forgetting her children (the guy didnt made this very clear in the video). They were her entire motivation behind everything she did, so actively choosing to forget them seems a little out of character. I wish they made the contract with the spirit work a little different, like forgetting Zuko and Azula was some kind of side effect of changing her face, and maybe Ursa didnt know that would happen, something like that.
