How INTPs Mistype Themselves (and Why It Happens)

It can be difficult for anyone to decide which of the 16 personality types fits them best, but INTPs especially may have a particularly challenging time settling on their type. The most common personality mistypes for the INTP (in descending order) include the INTJ, INFP, INFJ, and even ENTP. In this video, Truity's lead trainer Samantha MacKay explains how and why INTPs often mistype themselves.

As a self-typed INTP, its fascinating to see the wide range of personalities and diverse life paths all converge on the rather inward-facing and reserved mannerisms espoused by the INTP banner.
I wonder if INTP's tendency to overthink often leads to mistyping, or in other words the hallmark self-fulfilling prophecy. What a tenuous and incredible group of curious minds!

Thank you so much! I had this exact confusion, was not sure if I was an INTP, INFP or INTJ even INFJ. Now I feel more confident that I am by natural wiring an INTP. I seek clarity and understanding above all things, I will study things in detail. I take ages because when I want to understand something, I want to understand it to its core. Once I have understood something I get this high, I get so excited, I don't think anything excites me more than learning and being able to do something and solve problems as a result! I evaluate data by seeing if it explains any previous phenomena/experiences. The INFP and INTJ aspects of my personality were in response to cultural expectations and trauma. I would say trauma played a big role. But I am happy that had developed those aspects since I am very capable as a result.

Thank you for sharing this! its nice to know ppl often get stuck between INTP/INFP ... yet i still cant figure out which one i am lol. I'm realising i may not be as good at dealing with other peoples emotions as i used to think i was?? How does one decide whether one is good at this or not?
