South Dakota governor Kristi Noem banished from tribal land over proposed border security maneuver

A South Dakota Indigenous tribe banished Republican Gov. Kristi Noem from setting foot on its land in protest of her administration mulling plans to dispatch resources to Texas to bolster border security.

Oglala Sioux Tribal President Frank Star blasted Noem for publicly musing about sending razor wire and personnel to the border, suggesting she was jockeying for the vice presidency.

“Due to the safety of the Oyate, effective immediately, you are hereby Banished from the homelands of the Oglala Sioux Tribe!” Star declared last Friday, using “Oyate,” a word that means nation.

Star, who noted the Oglala Sioux is a “sovereign nation that is neither a Democrat nor Republican tribe,” underscored that many of the migrants pouring across the southern border are Indigenous people looking for “jobs and a better life.”

“[They] don’t deserve to be dehumanized and mistreated by people like Governor [Abbott] and his cohorts,” he said.

How r they going to enforce this banishment? They would need some kind of border security right?

Does Mr Star want the illegals on his reservation?

How many is Frank willing to take in on tribal land, and how much tribal money is he willing to spend on them? Lead through example, not virtue signaling.

Gov. Noem is right, this is about the federal government refusing to enforce existing immigration laws. The Chief might want to consider the consequences of allowing "indigenous migrants" to start pulling resources from our own native Americans who need the jobs like the rest of us.

Send them all to Star's place, his land. Let him take care of them...I'm willing to bet he buddies up with Governor Noem in no time at all, needing government/state "resources" to help keep them afloat. The border is an unmitigated disaster and Biden is 100% responsible...not Governor Noem.

He says many are indigenous people. What does that mean? Not indigenous to
the United States. So their people have been in Peru for 5, 000 years, so they can
come here no questions asked? what???? Utterly illogical nonsense.

You'd think Native Americans, of all people in history, would understand the importance of border security

I didn’t know Chinese, Russian, and peoples from India were indigenous to North America. I’m so grateful for his insight. You learn something new everyday.

If they were indigenous people then they would have been born here. They saying the south American illegal aliens are indigenous people who belong here is like saying Bushmen in Africa, or Abbos from Australia also belong here. Yeah they are indigenous people, but not to this country. Kristi is doing the right thing by defending her country.

If all the people pouring over the border are indigenous people "looking for jobs and a better life"..why doesn't he bring them onto his land and give them all jobs, housing, food, phones, medical care...

My dad was Oglala and Oneida. There is a reason Oglala is one of the poorest nations and why drug use, alcoholism and poverty is rampant on the reservation. I have never met this man, but know that tribes are extremely liberal and those that are conservative usually "go along to get along". For him to ban the governor that has bolstered her state and the tribes is very telling.
Btw- only two of my siblings live on the rez in WI. The rest of us live in various states.
