I have no illusions about the crimes committed by the various governments of my country. In the 70s, as a teenager, I used to visit a ruined ancient monument and an old guy, who was employed as a groundsman for the site, asked me why I liked coming to the place and I said that it was our heritage. He said that it wasn't and that our heritage was all the blood spilled by us around the world. It changed the way I looked at our history.
