This video was mastered in HDR, but it looks like YouTubes processing will take its time 😂! Let me know if you guys have questions!

@2:30 - For my fellow Mac Users, an alternative to an external PCI enclosure is just get an UltraStudio 4K instead of a Decklink.
It's a thunderbolt device that does the same thing (plus capture and a few extra features).
For those who don't need 4K - the UltraStudio MONITOR 3G (NOT capture) will give you a clean HD output via HDMI or SDI and it's super cheap.

I'm curious if you have any tips for getting into HDR? I have my LG C1 Oled which while not perfect can be used for HDR grading in some scenarios. Curious if you have any tips for getting started in that world, it does seem a bit different from SDR.

I know you need to be in DCI-P3 or Rec2020 and in some nit level of the STR gamma. I don't currently have an IO device, I will be getting one for my new main monitor upgrade in the near future. My OLED is just used a client display, so it's connected directly to my Mac via thunderbolt 3 to HDMI.

How it would be best to watch HDR content that I grade? Upload to YouTube and then watch it there since they now support HDR video? Also on Mac there are is an option to allow HDR for displays that support it. When I turn this on the LG turns on HDR mode, so I assume this should stay on when working in HDR, and off when in SDR.

Thanks!

Hello! Amazing tutorial! Been considering getting the C1 for grading at home vs the studio. My question is, could you replace the Decklink for an Ultrastudio for using with a Macbook pro and still have the different ports configuration for SDR and HDR?

I think there is a missed opportunity here to discuss how to actually calibrate. No mention of meter profiling or metamerism. Remember that D65 on an OLED will not perceptually look like D65 so you'll need a custom white point when calibrating. Also the color meter is simply estimating tristimulus values from a measurement of reflectance and converting those into chromaticity co-ordinates, as opposed to measuring the absolute power distribution of the light source. This is why some sort of spectro device is necessary to profile your meter when properly calibrating a display for professional use.

Hello Sidney,

I watched a video where he says that for the C2 Serie there is no internal pattern generator. Do I need a raspberry oder something else then? He also does not use the LG service remote control. I don't know how I approach :( can you help me. he seems to be a professional colorist aswell. Here is his Video

I’ve got a C3. Doing the SDR is fine. HDR I get very weird response and it gets stuck in magenta. Think I need to talk to Calman

Hello Sidney, thank you very much for your video!
I have a doubt left. Why do you use video levels for HDR and full levels for SDR?
I'm working with an LG C3 and I think full levels for both works fine if I enter that information on the TV.

Does anybody experienced difference between LG OLED with Decklink/UltraStudio + Calman VS Graphic Card + i1Profiler?

I got SDR with 1iProfiler "Average ∆E, all patches" = 0.9 and "Maximum ∆E, all patches" = 1.7 on LG C2 does it mean I can get lower then that or there are also other aspects of it? How big a difference it makes for SDR with both approaches?

3 lvl of CC:
I'm a pro - Decklink + Sony BNM X300
I'm a semi pro - Decklink + LG OLED + Calman
I'm on a budget - Nvidia + LG OLED + i1Profiler
No budget - I'm gonna see colors with colorpicker and I'm going render it in my imagination like Neo "...there's way too much information to decode the Matrix. You get used to it, though. Your brain does the translating. I don't even see the code. All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead..."

Thanks for this very thorough tutorial! I've followed this and some of your other suggested videos in the description and I can't figure out why the internal pattern generator on my 2023 C3 won't display. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I really do not want to setup a rasberry pi pattern generator. Was really hoping this would do the trick. Am I missing something?

1. Got the service remote and set up the "secret menu" properly
2. Connected TV via ethernet to the same network as my windows computer running Calman LG Home.
3. Turn off all additional menu options like AI and anything auto.
4. Setup Calman Home LG exactly as you did in the video.

But no patterns are appearing except for in the pattern generator pop up windows inside windows. What am I doing wrong?

thanks for any help!

thanks for the video Sidney, what about using a Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Monitor 3G? do you really need a enclosure if working on a mac?

why rec 709 on full level and hdr on video level ? hdr need full to pass 12bit 444 while rec709 is fine on video level 8bit or 10 bit 422
