This story wouldn't be believable if I didn't live it. Hi, I'm Dennis Schleicher, and this video is about my experience at Costco in Lehi, Utah-crazy eye exam and where it left me. Ever had one of those moments where you think, “This can’t be real?” Well, that was my experience at the Costco eye exam in Lehi, Utah. As a dyslexic, eye exams can be challenging, especially when I’m asked to choose which image looks clearer, left or right. But this time, it was more than just difficult—it was dismissive.

When I tried to explain my dyslexia, the doctor simply shrugged it off, saying, “It doesn’t matter; one is blur, so pick one.” Not exactly the empathy you’d expect when vision is involved. In this video, I’ll take you through what happened, sharing some key “Do’s and Don’ts” if you’re considering Costco for your next eye exam.

Hi Dennis, my practice is in Queens NY and the name of my practice is Mr Optical. I’ve been at that location for 19 years and I strongly believe in giving my patients quality eyewear.

We had a patient that came to us for years and we gave them Varilux (tradename) progressive lenses which are bit more expensive premium lenses. This particular patient decided she didn’t want to pay so much for the lenses, so she went to Costco for her next pair. A year later she called and said she rued the day that she got Costco lenses. She then said she’ll never go anywhere else but to me. There really is a difference.

The eye doctors at Costco are independent doctors. My suggestion is go get your eye examine from your own doctor and then take your RX to Costco and get your eyeglasses there to save money.

Dear Dennis, At the 5:00 min mark of your video, you stated there were no Costcos in Connecticut. There are 9 Costco's in Connecticut.

I had a similar situation, I went back twice and they told me that I have to get used to it. This was 2 months ago and there is no getting used to it. Seeing your video I am going to go back tomorrow! You are right! I spent nearly 300 dollars and just like you, without insurance and there should be no reason why I couldn’t see well with my new glasses!

Had a similar experience at Walmart optical. Got my progressives and I said the optical center is off. I can see clearer to the side, not directly in front of me. They said "I have to get used to it." I was like um, it is clearer to the side vision. They ignored me (I used to work for an optometrist). I threw them out. Customer no service.

You get what you pay for as the old expression goes. Im an optician at a quality optical dispensary. You say you received Transition lenses and i assume you mean progressive. Costco does not use a high quality progressive lens plus in addition you were probably measured incorrectly and the height of the progressive and/or the pupillay measurement are off. Did they show you how to use them or just handed them to you. The frames they use are also very inexpensive and that"s why they probably broke so easily. Next time, save your money and get a quality pair of glasses. It's your eyes, treat them right
