We partnered with Social Venture Circle to host this panel as an evening edition of NEXT Economy LIVE, a community watch event of the documentary COMPLICIT and panel conversation about China, human rights, and where we go in the present moment.

Right now the world is watching as China—the world's largest authoritarian surveillance state—threatens to further erode democracy in East Asia. Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tibet and Uigurs in Xinjiang are all waiting to see what we as China's largest funders (as consumers) will do to support their struggles.

Join us June 11 at 7pm ET to watch COMPLICIT, an award-winning documentary shot below the radar in China which lays out what the stakes are—for workers and everyday Chinese citizens dealing with a tightening human rights environment while producing smartphones and other devices to feed the world's demand for technology.

These issues are trending today: China surveillance, trade war, Hong Kong and Tibet human rights, and Chinese worker repression in Amazon factories as the company earns record profits. COMPLICIT was filmed as the filmmaking window in China was rapidly closing in 2014-2015.
The film could not be made today given the current environment of government surveillance and crackdown on civil society, journalists and citizen advocates.

Join us for a Watch Party (community screening and live chat) followed by panel discussion featuring Heather White (Co-Director/Producer, COMPLICIT); Ethan Gutmann (Author & Investigative Journalist); and Elaine Lu (China Labor Watch) moderated by Greg Hemmings (Hemmings House Pictures).

In partnership with the American Sustainable Business Council, Intentional Media, JumpScale, and Opportunity Collaboration.

Supported by The Accountkeepers, Bromberger Law, and SustainVC.
