Emilia Pérez Is The Messiest Movie I've Ever Seen- and It Deserves All the Hate It's Getting...In Today's video I will be deep diving into all the reasons the movie musical Emilia Pérez is under fire in all types of communities recently for being an offensive and tone-deaf mess. After clips that went viral on tiktok of Selena Gomez' bad spanish accent, to cringey dances and musical lyrics- people were shocked that this trainwreck of a film was being made and even praised. Especially its being inaccurate in their depiction of latino culture and other marginalized communities, and why latino people everywhere on tiktok, youtube and even the news are mad at this film. From the producer being terrible behind the scenes, having bad writing, confusing horrible plot devices, to major casting problems- such as Selena Gomez being casted in a problematic role in which she can't speak the language and the role reinforcing bad stereotypes about latino people. People are also upset that this movie musical won over Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's Wicked, despite Emilia Pérez having the worst music ever heard in a musical. We need to talk about how one film changed movie musical history forever, but for the worse! This is a lot deeper and far more problematic than you think and I'm here to tell you why!

☀HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO MY VERY FIRST VIDEO OF 2025! ☀ I hope you all had an amazing week and are ready to kick off 2025 with this hour long special about the trainwreck of a movie that is Emilia Perez...y'all...it's SO BAD. So bad that the latino community on social media and even on the news are boycotting the film  💀 (deservingly so).  From clips of Selena Gomez’s bad Spanish accent going viral on TikTok to cringe-worthy dances and horribly written lyrics such as "from man to woman, from p*nis to v*ginaaaAAAA" (no I'm not joking)—to think that this film won a golden globe over Wicked is wild. In today's video I’ll break down why people are so mad at this trash movie, from the producer’s terrible writing, confusing plot devices, and music disasters—all while reinforcing harmful stereotypes about Latinos and trivializing the Trans community (imagine your film being so bad it gets the very communities you tried representing to also hate on it lmao 😭 ). This goes far deeper and is more problematic than you think—and I’m here to tell you why (pray for me fr cause I lost brain cells doing this video i fear). This video is the perfect way to start out this chaotic year—hope you all enjoy it! 💕Can’t wait for another messy year together   If you haven’t already, follow me on Instagram (@_salemtovar_) and join my neighborhood chat, where I keep you updated on everything happening behind the scenes! 💕

That movie is as authentic for us as Emily in Paris is for French people

The OG Selena (Quintanilla) also grew up as a No Sabo kid but when her career began to pick up, she dedicated time to learn the langauge to better connect with her Latino fans and her own heritage. And there wasnt *nearly* the same resources back then as there is today to learn languages....

Also not this lady going "We wanted this Mexican story to be authentic, so we went to ALL the places where people speak Spanish, like Mexico, Spain, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Nicaragua, Cuba, my corner store, a Spanish class at my old community college, hell we even tried the Philippines, and nobody in any of these places was more talented and authentically Mexican than Selena Gomez." The LAYERS of what's wrong with that.

The worst part about the "there was no talent" excuse is like... I simply do not believe them. Mexico produces plenty of amazing films every single year. You're telling me they contacted EVERY talent agency and out of ALL the auditions, none of them were satisfying enough so they had to give it to I call bullshit.

Even then, it would've been easier to find someone who's more fluent with the same level of talent. Like that's so fucking weird.

Eiza Gonzalez speaks perfect Spanish & English and can sing. There was literally a trans woman from Mexico in the audience that night. Nava Mau who was awesome in Baby Reindeer. For them to say they couldn’t find Mexican talent lol that’s some bs

Your takes about "digestible" media is so spot on. It reminds me of when Zendaya said she's Hollywood's perfect representation of a black girl because she's mixed and light skinned. Media is so racist

About Selena learning Spanish, and even having resources to do so. It's true! Look at Michelle Zauner, a Korean American who grew up not knowing the language, years later she learned the language by moving to Korea and exploring her culture BECAUSE she had the resources. Selena could’ve learned Spanish YEEAARS ago.

2:21 The fact that TikTok got banned, only lasted 15 hours, and now they're praising Trump for it. I'm so done.

*They want to “represent” our culture but not respect it*

I feel like Selena has distances herself from her Mexican heritage before and only embraces it when convenient and usually poor stereotypes

It’s really sad to me that most popular way to show something in Mexica is to put a yellow filter on movie and add sand and poverty. We live in age of breaking stereotypes yet this movie doesn’t care much

This movie won over "Ainda estou aqui".
As a Brazilian, I feel like my lawyer would advise me to not say anything else.

selena's spanish in this film actually murdered me she spoke like she was reading off of google translate 😭 and yes i know her charavter jessi was supposed to be Mexican American (like me!) but that feels like a cheap cop out

You know what’s more embarrassing about Selena’s Spanish is that Ralph Fiennes spoke a majority of his lines in Conclave in Italian and had amazing pronunciation. He actually put in the work and effort and Selena did not. An actor can still provide an amazing performance with shitty dialogue and direction, so it shows that Selena is a lazy actor and couldn’t be bothered to learn or even attempt authentic Spanish

That movie needed a Dialect Coach, not having one to me is the way they show they just did not care

I also saw a video where they mentioned the double standard the Hollywood industry has for non-English speakers bc they expect them to speak perfect English but when it comes to any other language they don’t put in the same amount of effort 🤧

Mexicans find this movie offensive, trans people find this movie offensive, theater fans hate it, conservatives hate it, leftists hate it, who is the target audience???

I've always wanted to know why Selena didn't learn Spanish. She has the money and resources. It was even a running joke on Wizards of Waverly.
