Thanks for the info and comparisons. The Bontone is .1%, Clonex is .3% and the Technaflora is .55% of the hormone, so that is why it is so much better.

Hey dude, it's pretty easy to make your own rooting hormone, if your interested I can hunt down the recipe, I don't have it memorized but I remember I learned it from clackmass coot, and on the less precise side of things aloe vera, kelp and willow trees all have a abundance of plant hormones in them

Nice experiment. Wish you would have added alow vera, because supposedly it's better than clonex.

Brands that use IBA as the active ingredient will have different concentrations for specific applications: 0.1%, .02%, 0.3%. Soft stem, woody & semi-wood, and difficult to root cuttings. Seems more like marketing when you could just buy 1 then adjust the amount used based on your project.

So, .... you did not compare the actual ROOTS! and this is a video about rooting hormone... and the ones you chose are all the same, so its kind of like comparing brands of aspirin for people.

Just because a plant looks bigger on top side, the root structure likely tells a different story. Each of these products likely have IBA hormone in them at different concentrations. The IBA 'shuts down' the auxin response (top growth)... so the roots can grow.... so you get either roots or chutes. My guess is your larger plants actually have weaker root structure and the ones with balanced growth to be the healthier plants. I feel the most important thing is getting the dosage correct for your particular application. It appear clonex was too strong and choked the plant much like a drug od.

May I suggest finding a product that has both IBA and NAA in it, to get more balanced root stimulation? I personally use Dipn Grow. I like it because you can adjust the dilution according to the plant species you are trying to propagate. Will the all work? Maybe.... but so might just sticking it into the pot without hormone.... ( In your experiment, I did not see a control group, so we cant see that there is any difference to not using the product at all.) Its possible one product might be better for roses, another better for poinsettias, etc.

Hardwoods will need a much higher dosage than succulents to see any effect at all, and giving a succulent hormone suitable for a hardwood will usually make it wither. Every plant reacts slightly differently to different levels of the hormone, just like drugs in people, only it sometimes takes a long time to see the results. If you want bushy top growth there are hormones for that as well, but they shut down root development in lieu of top growth and/or fruits.
