This new method of sand propagation in cheap storage bins has worked out amazingly for me. You can use this method for other types of cuttings as well, from roses to many other varieties of fruit trees. The key is that your cuttings must be cleaned, you have good play sand, and you use a great rooting hormone. Besides that it's just a matter of time.

Thank you for this information. I wanted to comment to tell you that I had about 50% success even with all my mess-ups when it came to cutting the suckers off the mother tree, prepping them for rooting, and moving them to nursery pots. Even with all my screw-ups, I have 9 out of 18 original cuttings that are growing leaves and haven't died yet. So thanks for sharing!

Good job. One thing you can do is explain the process - start to finish - for others (including the use of the heat maps). Another method that also works very well is just sticking them in a pot full of sand, right out in the open during Winter. Agree, that this method you are using is convenient and efficient, in that the roots are viewable, along with many laid down (as you have) side by side in a small tray. This method will work with many hardwood cuttings as well. Keep up the great work.

The Celeste variety has so many nodes on a single 8 inch cutting, that I find it insane that it doesn’t sprout as fast as other varieties?

Do you sterilize your sand before you use it? And if the roots grow together like that do you have to worry about damaging them when pulling them apart when it comes time to transplant?

Wait how did you get the roots to grow out the bottom instead of all along the other nodes? Is there a specific way you cut them or did you use rooting hormone on that end?
