Looks like a great set up Paul and with the screen it should really let the scent spread throughout to attract more marten. Good job!

Clever setup, a catch is a catch and I don't know why it wouldn't catch. Lots of work to setup initially but years of catches should be worth the time! Excited to see the video of them on the line!

You could still add a leaning pole up to the platform. My experience with Martin is they do love to run on horizontal trees.

great job on the box, that will work perfect, squirrels shouldn't chew on the wire too much unlike plywood boxes !

Great video Paul! Yes keep trap supported away from spruce otherwise pitch will get on marten fur and if you can use a chunk of screen to protect your bait otherwise critters will eat it. Hanging set vertically is what I do. In Canada we can only use body grip for marten/fishers. Good luck!

That should work! I don't know anything about marten trapping but I like your design! Thank you for sharing my friend!

Now that is "thinking outside of the box", great idea and should work awesome ! Can't wait to see the results.

We're all learning new stuff. I'm still working on my first beaver.

I'm sure those traps will work great, look forward to seeing how many you catch.

Looks great brother - After centuries of trapping, it goes to show some ingenuity still lives inside us modern

I'm excited to see you load these up & go set'em up!

Edit: Instead of a 4 inch screw fixing the 2x4 to the tree... Use a big spike/nail, therefore you are reliant on your hammer, or backend of an axe VS. a cordless drill (Or worse... screwdriver while its cold & you have little dexterity in your hands LOL)

I’m not a seasoned trapper but I was wondering if the marten find that lumber unnatural?

the set ups look good, wish we had marten here to trap.

There is a way more efficient way with almost no hassle and no bulk
Buy a roll of flashing and make cones with rivets .They stack well no space .
Build a cross shaped 1”x1” about 8” long each to wedge your set conibear on .Screw cross to tree wedge trap on horizontal part of cross then put bait on top of cross set cone over it .
DONE
Hope that helps they are fast efficient and weight nothing

Marten seem to be attracted to the leaning pole its self...I've seen them caught on leaning pole with no bait...(cause birds got it) just a passing thought.

Drop the 2x4 just screw the board to the tree.
