Lived in the area of Mohawk TN and never knew there was a guy who knew all about these and wrote the book on it on it…

I always enjoy these videos for their educational value. Well done. And, by the way, the great American jurist and associate justice of the Supreme Court, Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr, once said "Taxes are the price we pay for civilization."

'Bad' means Bath...usually a place where folks went for hot mineral baths .. I was stationed near Bad Windsheim...

That certificate is a promotion letter from Kriminaloberassistent to Kriminalsekretaer. Bad Pyrmont is not in Eastern Germany.

Thanks, Tom! I learned something new today.

I really love seeing these artifacts from WW2. Items like these need to be preserved as a reminder not to ever let this history repeat itself.

As Larry Sharpe points out: We are being *extorted* into paying taxes.

It is startling how modern the design of the the ID pass appears - except for the photo of course.
Is the plastic holder original too?
This opens up another rabbit-hole of collecting - 'The history of ID through the ages'.

The document is actually a record of a promotion from assistant detective, kriminalassistenten, to detective sergeant, kriminalseketar. It doesn't indicate what this particular officer's duties were.

For the average German during the Third Reich, there was nothing more chilling than the prospect of hearing a knock at the door late at night, and upon opening the door, being greeted by a figure who showed that disc and uttered those terrifying words "Geheime Staatspolizei."

FYI Tom if you don't know The word Bad (English: bath) is normally used as a prefix (Bad Vilbel) or a suffix (Marienbad, Wiesbaden) to denote the town in question is a spa

Have you seen dragonmans nazi museum? You would really enjoy it I’m sure. And not to make this political but our political climate feels more and more like it’s headed towards a Nazi regime labeling certain people a certain way to build hostility towards them attempting to take away rights and liberties but we shall see. I love the content, I love learning about history and so does my daughter so I am thankful for people like you

What did you do in the war grandpa? Imagine telling your grandkids you were a member of the Geheime Staatspolizei. Way cool in a really dark way. " My grandpa was in the Gestapo." Whao dude! That's narly! Me, I had one uncle in the Waffen SS and another in The Red Army. My dad was just a kid, a Ukrainian peasant who ended up on a farm near Hamburg. History.

One thing is wrong with the explanation: Bad Pyrmont is not in the east of Germany. But remember: for nearly 2 centuries Poland didnt exist, big part emerged into Prussia. And this east part of Prussia, Niederschlesien, was very poor so in 19th century a whole lot of people went into the new industrial centers of Germany like Ruhrgebiet, here Bad Pyrmont is near Hannover, another industrial center wich exploded in business in this period.

Anyone else get extremely distracted by the hair that was just entwined in his fingers the entire time he was handling the disks? lol
