MOST PEOPLE Do not realize the significant difference between flying a helicopter and flying an airplane. Airplanes are a stable craft with a co-pilot & an auto-pilot where as helicopters are not a stable aircraft to fly. Even under ideal conditions a Pilot flying a helicopter has his hands full literally. But in poor visibility & bad weather even the best of helicopter pilots can fail to fly it safely no matter how much experience they have. I believe that pilot error (poor judgement) due to lack of visibility on his part, will be the NTSB investigators final call on this accident in the end.

bottom line : regardless of how "capable" & well trained the pilot was, he shouldn't have agreed to fly into the fog lifted. little humility would've avoided this tragedy.
