This really is heartbreaking. I’m sending all the love and support I can to this man and his family. The Wall Street Journal needs to start some kind of page for people so we you know send prayers and money and donations and whatever… thisis just terrible.😢

Selina Cheng was also fired in Hong Kong due to her ties with the Chinese government. The U.S. government is extremely angry because the Russian and Chinese governments could use prisoners like Evan Gershkovich and Jimmy Lai as bargaining chips to negotiate the removal of economic sanctions on their countries.

Evan Gershkovich, a journalist detained in Russia, and Jimmy Lai, a pro-democracy activist imprisoned in Hong Kong, have become focal points in the geopolitical tension between these nations and the United States. The U.S. has imposed strict economic sanctions on both Russia and China, which have significantly impacted their economies.

In response, there is growing concern that Russia and China might leverage these high-profile prisoners in negotiations, aiming to ease or remove the sanctions. This situation has heightened tensions and complicated diplomatic relations, as the U.S. remains steadfast in its stance on the sanctions, viewing them as crucial measures to address human rights violations and other international concerns.
