You didn't see the first diode working because it's infrared. Get some infrared testers and try again. Remember to use proper safety glasses for infrared

I'm sad that was a reverse compatible model that could have easily been repaired

The invisible infrared is the dangerous one.
Pretty sure that’s the one that can be used to write data to the disks

Repairing it would be an awesome thing to see

Ones a burning laser diode and ones a reading laser diode the ps lacks a burning laser uses a much weaker one to read

Reball the CPU and you have working PS3

You want the read/write laser diode out of a dvd burner

The entire retro console screen now hates you for it being a backwards compatible was personally hoping it was a slim PS3

That violet diode was honestly prolly a big part of the not working problem. That bish should've lit that match almost instantly.. well at least at the focal point 😆 I've built 405nm lasers with diodes outta ten dollar Blu-ray players from Goodwill that were able to light my bong 😂 you seem to know what you're doing so I highly doubt it's a problem on your end! Plus outta all the diodes I've worked with (many lol) violets have crapped out on me more than any other wavelength 😑 especially the bdr-209 16x which absolutely destroyed my soul cuz I thought they were gonna be the best of the best. Those 405nm Sharp brand diodes tho are a game changer. They're multimode instead of single so I don't think they'd work well in a disk drive, but I've pushed one in a mini pointer build to almost 2 watts and it's turned on in my pocket a couple times now and lightweight fried itself 🤣🤣 I'm pretty sure it's lost some power from that, but I have one other faithful violet laser that's almost a watt & the mini is still noticeably brighter! Lil tank of a diode 💜

This specific model could have been repaired very easily, sad to see it get trashed for just the diodes

I love harvesting stuff from broken gear. 👍

Honestly i'm disapointed in you. It's a PS3 you can fix it, you have the skills, the tech and enough drive for 4 people. Also can't you can burn things with a dvd laser?

i dont even game anymore or could care less about it, but still would have rather seen you try to diagnose and repair first and then harvest parts if thats a fail.. yep easy for a keyboard cowboy to say you should do this or that with your time .
atkeast you got a working lazer, i tried something similar and only got a couple of small magnet to show for my time. lol

It isn’t the intensity that burns, it’s the wavelength. Obviously you need enough intensity to at least start the reaction.

Also, some lasers are in IR or UV and can damage your cornea or retina.

If I got an old PS3 from someone, I’d fix it so I can play Metal Gear Solid 4

Why isn’t it available to play on anything else

Could have repaired it, its not easy as you have to get the right ps3 from i think the 2nd generation and you would have a ps3 that can play ps2 games
