Some three quarters of a century on, as the brutal conflict that shaped the modern world slowly fades from living memory, intriguing and sobering remnants of its rusting, wrecked weaponry are still being unearthed.

Presented by Dan Snow, this absorbing series takes an archaeological approach to these fascinating time capsules – crashed aircraft, battle-damaged tanks, hidden bunkers – and painstakingly pieces together the compelling wartime stories that surround them.

Archive footage, world-class CGI, powerful personal testimony and expert insight are all brought to bear as former theatres of war, both on land and on water, continue to give up their secrets. Long buried or submerged, these military relics have much to tell the historian before they rust away completely.

Basically after every invasion beginning with the ancient celts the citizens of England was turned into glorified mercenaries by their overlords, they knew and seen first hand the fighting spirit and tenacity of those people, and liked what they seen and new thered be beneficial, just as the romans did and sultans using them as shock troops and body guards, the English wasnt wiped out or bred out!!, they was bred with and made stronger and stronger with every conquerer and made in to the ultimate warrior that went on to conquer most of the globe..it makes you wonder if this is what commodity as in DNA that conquerers wanted?...

William the Conqueror and the plantagenet Kings of England is one of the most interesting families you will ever read about. Beats any TV show you could watch today.
And I can't say it enough how much I love and appreciate and trust PBS. PBS is an American institution that has helped kids grow up to be responsible adults
