The manual is a vital skill for getting the front wheel over, or across obstacles such as ditches, and to allow you to safely negotiate drops in the trail. Here's how to do it right.

After 25 odd years of riding this is still the skill I struggle with the most! Great Vid!

I've seen a lot of manual videos, and can kinda half do it. Unlike some other commenters, I think this video offers some unique and useful advice. The idea of pushing with your legs/feet is a big help, and something I have not seen focused on in e.g. GMBN and 12 others.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I am commenting because that is what people do. Loved the video!

Hmm I have to try the leg thing more. I’ve almost ripped my arms off trying to push back like in these tutorials- but the wheel only comes up by about 2”.

What about pump before pulling back, for me it's important too.

Hi! Sorry, but what do you mean saying that fault technique makes you "landing heavy?". I mean, if the difference in coming of the drop is evident, is there any difference in landing sinse you are ready to absorb and matched the landing?

So almost as if I were trying to push trhu my heels almost as it I was gonna bail and catapault the bike right?

Having trouble getting to the weight point, in fact I haven't done it once. I've video'ed myself and my technique looks good but I'm 5'6 with a medium frame to grow into and I also weigh only 45 and the bike is nearly 15.... Is it possible??

The #1 tip to learn how to manual?

PRACTICE PRACTICE AND MORE PRACTICE ..
It doesn’t happen over night, you need to be consistent.

wish someone showed how to do this on an e-mtb, the front end is so freaking heavy, it takes so much more skill (it seems). please, we need a video tutorial on that for e-bikes!

I can wheelie for as long as I want and even coaster wheelie for about 50 feet (I can usually hold coasters as long as I want on hills though) But I cant manual for my life!!!!

Or you could just squash it and keep your speed, just like you'd do on a stairs with equal sets between the flats
