For people struggling I have found the hidden key (for me anyway)

I bend my knees and explosively straighten them out at about 45 degs out over the back tyre.
Make sure to drive your heals down so the soles of your feet are pointing forwards.
Stiff arms and up she come

Hope this helps

Now I have to master keeping it there :)

Moto-style brake layout. I definitely agree with that.
How about doing a short video on the pros & cons of each style of brake setup?

The lighter the bike, the easier. The smaller the bike, the easier. The shorter the chain, the easier. The shorter the stem length, the easier. The more vertical-ish the head angle of your frame is, the easier. The more torso to legs ratio you have, the easier. and lastly, the more practice you have, the more impossible it is to not manual on any bike that exists.

Yeah, this is a must skill for drop offs and also setting up for a bunny hop to get over obstacles.

Nice 60 sec video as usual. That's the first time I ever noticed that the position of the brakes varies from country to country. Was throwing me off a bit when you were grabbing your left brake lever to engage the back brake.

You can't obtain this skill without mastering wheeling first, because manualing is mostly likely to follow naturally, instead of practicing just manual.

Is this also possible on a "casual" 29er-hardtail with 100mm travel?

I think that it should be 90 seconds instead of 60, include trouble shooting!!

With a Nomad it's not a problem, but doing this with a heavier DH bike is a pain in the ass if you don't weigh that much :D

You should review bikes. I love to see reviews of bikes

Is this easier to do on certain types of bikes? I have a Scott XC 29er, and though I've spent many times trying to get this, and watching this video several times to see if I'm missing something, the manual just eludes me. Tips other than in the video?

K so after an hour of trying, I can sort of pop the front wheel off but I cant get it to go to the balance point and it just slams down on the front. It feels like the bike does not want to roll far enough back. I have the hips down and back movement I think, I am pulling back hard enough to almost pull my hands off the grips but the front wheel pops 3 inches and then back down. near as I can tell I am doing as you instructed.

I do get the front wheel high enough... well in fact, too high ! I have problems getting it right and finding the sweet spot / right first impuls. Either my front wheel drops again or I do it too hard and have to bail out over my rear tyre. It's getting annoying ^^
