Battleship Texas, Holding Back The Flood

It's pretty surprising how much water can come through a relatively small hole in a ship's hull. Keeping it from overwhelming the ship is done by creating hundreds of very small holes in the water instead of one very large one!

Im a Captain on a 110' utility boat for work. Thank you for what you do! Nice to see the limited access spots. It would be a dream come true to crawl all around her! Thank you sir! Gonna miss her at San Jacinto Battlefield! I hope she stays close to us! My 7 year old loves her!

When I was young (1960's) I begged Dad to take me there to roam around inside. When in my 20's I roamed as much as possible until I became bored with the limited access. I haven't been back there in quite some time. I like your videos of places I have seen, and many I haven't.

I must say that your content is so much better than the official BB TX Chanel. Excellent work sir, highly appreciated!

Life on board had to suck for everyone but really bad for the junior sailors. They had next to 0 private space. Much respect to those guys.

Very educational and full credit to the crews who manned such an amazing ship

This ship is super cool! I could spend a week going through that ship checking it out. Look forward to seeing it finished in drydock.

You are the best Tom. I've enjoyed your knowledge and experience for years, even back on the Warships 1 board. These video's are next level and the best I've seen on YouTube. Thank you

Thanks for the clip, keep 'em coming! I love seeing all of the parts of the ship that I could never access as a tourist over the years. I can only imagine what it must smell like in the lowest parts that you were showing in the video. I'm thinking a combination of 100 years of rust, fuel oil, and sweaty sailors.

Mr Tom thank you so much for doing these videos. Your tours are very educational and it is so interesting to see the these areas of the ship where her crew lived and worked that will probably not be seen by anyone other than the museum staff and maintenance crews.

I love seeing anything about the battleship Texas. She's a grand old girl and it amazing to still have her with us. I do wonder it its possible or if you may be able to do a video on the range and tracking rooms at the top of the tripod mast. I have never seen what that area looks like and Texas is the only ship to get that chance as she's the last of her kind. The last people to have seen them were the crew. If you see this please do a video on this topic.

Great work (as always!) documenting both USS Texas and battleship/naval technology. Your wealth of knowledge is greatly appreciated. I hope to visit in the coming years.

its a strange phenomena while some ships appear large their footprint area might actually seem small, a few hundred square feet, and the spaces inside create a mass of confusion, different sized and shaped rooms tightly fit the spaces allocated, corridors going in all directions, stairs and ladders passing between decks, i take my hat off to designers in how they make everything fit, and organise as best they can so that compartments run in order for crews to be able to access and take into account flooding, you completely understand why so many folk especially on military vessels can be lost when a ship is lost to the sea, and when things turn turtle

my special awareness is pretty good mostly and i would say is key here on board any ship, but i have to admit i get dizzy watching Tom pass from one space to another trying to work out where he is, (at least he lets us know which way he is facing at some points) its a scary place to be - even as i watch dear Tom take us through these spaces i need a map to visually see where i am - it must be fun for crew members to become accustomed to their surroundings, know where they are and heading to and be able to use this quickly in order to work or make a hasty escape when required, but it must be amusing when they tread into new surroundings unfamiliar to them - bless all those who have perished
