As of me writing this. Tomorrow August 31, 2022 she will start being moved to dry dock for some major work. Hey she still looks good for being over 100 years old.

Remember, USS TEXAS is still around and still floating in Houston, Texas. She is undergoing repairs so she can continue to shine for all.

"OVERLORD" was the overall invasion operation. The USS TEXAS served in the naval component, codenamed Operation NEPTUNE.

The USS Texas is my only Bucket List item. My Grandparents were married on the USS Texas. My grandfather served her twice.
This lady was the love of his life.

She was the largest battleship afloat when she first took to the sea. A glorious lady, about fifty miles from my house. Long may she live!

Creative fire control department on that ship! Impressive story.

She also had additional modifications that made her a unique New York Class. Purposely flooding compartments to make her list so the crew could offer that fire support adds to the Spirit of Texas. Sacrifice yourself to aid others.

The idea of flooding to increase the range of guns dates back at least to WW1. The RN used pre-Dreadnought battleships for coastal bombardment and they would sometimes flood compartments on the unengaged side of the ship to enable the big guns to elevate higher thus being able to shoot farther inland. I'd be willing to bet that TEXAS is the first, if not only, US ship to do this. A neat trick which worked very well.

The leadership on board that ship is what made it happen. Leadership matters

Went on a tour as a kid in the late sixtys on the Texas, it was awesome they even fired one of the 5" guns as part of the tour. You remember that forever as a kid.
