Love the M11, you can keep the 8LL. L10/M11/ISM are pretty bullet proof, make good power and get reasonably good mileage. And if you are so inclined to tinker, they can make a LOT of power for a little engine.

When loaded in the Louisville I go 'LL 1-2-3-4 neutral button back to low then back to 4 which gives me 5 then to high side 6-7-8-9. Only when loaded. Works great for me

When empty I flip the range in high then put the truck in the low hole then drop the range back down and go from that gear to 4th then back up. Very smooth take off and shifting that way

Used to drive a foundation drilling truck that was a western star with the Mercedes/Detroit engine with the 8 speed. Nothing like holding a gear and hearing that turbo go to work

Grave dig an older video, shifting an 8LL is like shifting an old wide ratio 4 speed box in a 70s pickup truck. Nothing like a 500 rpm drop between gears to learn all about "torque rise" but they're just about as bulletproof of a heavy truck transmission as one can get.

great info.... I am looking at a L9513 Cat C10 8LL Dumper, single rear axle, not sure about gearing, also has front wheel drive I need that for these high volcanic mountains .

Damn, I wish my International had a Cummins with 8LL ! It's got an under-powered DT 466 in it. Great motor, just no power for towing.

great work !!!! just got our first 8ll it was a mess trying to get home. i would have to come to a full stop to retry hahaha. 8.3l cummins with a 8ll. last one was the 6 speed allison way better for a not trucker . she made it 300 miles np though

At what speed do I shift up. I've only driven 10 speeds but I'm now in an 8 speed and when I get to like 35 MPH, it won't let me shift to 7th gear etc

I have the same 8ll man I am glad it was my truck I was grinding when I first started driving it. I never had trouble shifting till this.. It is an on and off road tranny. I have a dump under powered by a (great fuel economy) Ford l8000 with a 210 hp Ford Brazilian engine. I often need the low low. If I am pulling out of a hole loaded from a stop. It will creep me out no problem then I go from LL 9blue switch) to low by flipping back the blue switch and then letting off the throttle then back on it and it breaks torque and shifts Then to 1st. i do not know what running gear I got. It is a tandem and will do 65 in 8th gear and that is fast enough for me. I can hall 13 ton but body wise I get ten ton loaded up and that is good enough for the old girl. I just watch a vid and the guy runs the switch in low low for the first 5 gears. I wouldn't. Then there is another vid of a "secret" or "mystery" gear.

So you can run truck without using L, L, L And start it in 1st ? Looking at Dump truck with it in it And how is the 8LL at hi-way speeds ?

So you can shift into LO without using low reduction switch correct ? Only use the switch to go into lo-lo ?
