Trisha used literally incorrectly again.

I hate that there are so many lines, websites, forums, videos, etc. about self-help. You can't have a self-help thing for others and hope for the best. The only person who can stop your depression is yourself.

I think you should have to opt in to be monitored, and also be able to select who gets notified, so that your psycho ex doesn't end up getting a hint to when it's the best time to murder you.

If the tweets are public anyway, then it is no different than setting up to see whenever someone tweets about puppies or pancakes or [boy band].  Instead of that you are just getting updates when people use sad words.  If someone didn't want to get replies then they shouldn't be saying it in a public place. It's like getting mad if your family subscribed to your youtube channel and commented on your videos.

(i'm speaking in generalities but this is actually a personal story)

Most depressed people for a long time don't want help, either because they don't think they need it or because they don't care enough to look for it, they would probably not opt in to begin with if that feature was implemented.

I am personally in the camp of thinking this is doing more harm than good, as a depressed person you are likely thinking that you are a unique case and no one will ever actually understand how you feel, getting messages from people you know is bad enough, they don't get how you feel.. Imagine how getting a message from a person you've never met before would make you feel, i'd be offended.

A story about depression and invasion that ironically puts me in a "feelin' good!" state of mind by referencing happy childhood memories of "Home Improvement" Tim Allen grunts.

This is very good because Trisha and SourceFed has saved me from doing my college homework, the irony in this is that my homework is on good samaritans and citizens arrest

With all of the drama queens/kings that I know, that thing would be ringing off the hook.

Topics about depression always hit close to home with me. I've been dealing with it for years. As for the app, I think the concept is a great idea, but in reality, there is no way it will actually work. There are too many people that will take advantage of the service and might potentially use it for the opposite of the desired effect. There are also, and I hate to say this but, a LOT of fakers on the internet. People that tweet post about wanting to harm themselves in the hopes that it will make them internet famous. THOSE people are why we can't have nice things. Those people also need to go fall in a hole for making light of serious situations.

I suffer from depression and I think that this app would be very helpful for families and friends with a depressed person in their lives to help reach out. "Unwanted attention" when someone is depressed, thinking of self-harming or worse, is a ridiculous way to put it. It might be unwanted, but if it's for the depressed/suicidal person's safety--mental or physical--it is definitely worth putting in an effort to try to communicate or give them attention so that they can get help. Cons to this would be that people misuse the word "depressed, " and the words "help me" can be used in many different contexts. Other words that might trigger this system are probably misused quite a bit as well, or be used sarcastically. If someone has this app and is getting a flood of emails from their friend's twitter account about how depressed they are, or how school sucks and it makes them want to kill themselves, then they should read every single one of those emails/tweets and try to read into them. Ask the tweeter questions about sketchy posts. REACH OUT OFTEN. Sometimes it's just too late.
