It's so much less work to extend the growing season with fall crops than in the spring. So many greens and root crops can withstand cold weather once they've established, while tender young things in the spring can be so vulnerable, even to a heavy rain. Fall gardening is so worthwhile!

Tonight, I am planting my fall garden. I have spinach, swiss chard, broccoli, collards, and kale. I love a spring garden but the greens, especially kale, are so sweet after a light frost. I really don't much enjoy the kale in the hot months because it is sooo much sweeter in the late fall - around November for me. I am already looking forward to it and have some meals planned! :) Yum

Impeccable timing. I just pulled up my beans today and will be sowing some fall veggies tomorrow. :)

Good tips, Patrick! We are going to compost heavily, and let our beds rest this winter, and just grow in the greenhouse!

I live in zone 10 South Florida Gulf coast, So I am starting to plan my "cool season" garden. Kales, lettuces, Radish, Pole and Bush Beans etc. I love being able to grow all year long with no frost date.

Hi Patrick. Love the channel. I really appreciate your passion for the principles you hold - organic, local, frugal - combined with your commitment to the details and showing tests and results to investigate your own methods. All the best for the future.

Picking the brewery grains up tomorrow all being well Patrick. Yesterday I swept up another large sack of leaves and more coffee from Starbucks. Have started to mix leaves with coffee grounds and am looking forward to experiments with grains. I haven't forgotten about the juice bar in the mall and need to get down there soon!

I did not plant too much for fall. It is time to get to work at my fly fishing bum job.  Thanks for sharing.

I let radicchio go to seed(had a volunteer from last year). Nice flowers. I am wondering how much to expect coming up in the spring. I gotta get radishes in right away. This will be my first attempt at fall harvest for them. Thanks for the reminder Patrick.

I spent the last day or so powering through most of your videos. Thanks for all the info! I put in 4x16' raised beds in this spring and filled them with 'black earth topsoil' and mushroom compost which may not have been the best approach. I have a bin full of almost-ready compost as well as a bag of pro-mix (peat/vermiculite). Since the garden is fairly full of veggies right now (potatoes, onions, kale, spinach, etc) what's the best way to quickly amend it? I'm hoping to grow more into the fall/winter so it won't be completely empty. Should I add compost whenever I dig a hole to plant, and/or should I cover the garden with compost and shredded leaves after I finish growing kale/spinach (I may cover with cold frame/row covers). Or I could remove some of the topsoil by digging out some of the empty spaces and add the pro-mix and compost but I don't know if I should disturb it. Thanks!

I've been watching a lot of your videos. they're informative and to the point. I'm germinating some spinach, kale and cucumber seeds now. i also plan to make a cold frame to prevent frost. I'm also going to try growing micro greens in the winter in case all fails. I would like to hear your oppinion on micro greens. is it all hype? from what i've researched they are compacted with vitamins and can be grown in a window sill. thanks for your videos

Planted cabbage, collards, radishes, beets, kale, chard, lettuce, spinach and mustard greens this week. Looking forward to carrots and turnips. I bought common comfrey seeds from Dollarseeds.com will they serve the same purpose as russian comfrey?

I've heard of ppl losing their comfrey &/or sorrell over the winter. I know you generally chop the comfrey at the end of the season, but do you also split & replant them every year, or is it considered perennial & overwinters well?
