The scariest looking plane in my opinion. Imagine being on a battlefield or something and hearing the Vulcan roar as it approaches your position....

the scariest part of the noise is the fact it wold be followed by a second sun

It's almost organic in both shape and sound. The closest we ever came to making a dragon.

In 1962, a Vulcan Bomber was coming into land at Filton Bristol, ( future Concorde Home) but, the weather was stormy, with very heavy rain and the Vulcan aqua planed and lost stability, so landing was aborted. Suddenly, it seemed to stand on it's tail, and rose almost vertically, on full power, and with colossal noise, rose up like a Monster, with about 60 feet left, before risking smashing through a wire fence and into Petrol Station pumps, that amazingly, had been built along the main A38 road, that ran passed the Airfield. That unearthly 'HOWL' was deffening, and the blast flattened Petrol Pumps and the Kiosk shed there, and blowing some cars off their intended direction. Nobody was hurt, but it was one hell of a scare. I think the Vulcan landed ok at Fairford. ( why didn't those Petrol pumps explode?? ) Heavy rain I suppose.

1:45 is one of the coolest sounds I have ever heard

My favourites are 1.44 and 1.54, she sounds like she's a lonely prehistoric bird, calling out across the countryside for a mate. I was lucky enough to see her in flight, and hear the howl for real. Absolutely awesome - thanks for sharing this video!

The most amazing sound ever. It sounds like a mystical beast has just been awoken from its sleep. Awesome!

What an amazing Aircraft, unearthly sounds, like tormented Demons. The sound alone of a few of these Planes at night sure would scare the Enemy into surrender without having to drop any devices.

Looked like the future. Handled like a fighter. Screamed like a banshee.
I give you, the Vulcan.

I can still remember hearing a Vulcan for the 1st time at the age of 12. I'm nearly 40 now and I'm still captivated by this incredible aircraft and the sense of overwhelming power and earth shattering noise it produces

I was lucky enough to see this incredible jet 3 times. I love the Avro Vulcan XH558 and still can not believe I will never see her airbourne again.  :-(

I'm not a Brit. Never been fortunate enough to have seen one of these monsters of the cold war. The look and sound of the Tu-95 or B-52 aint nothing compared to this. I can definitely see what you Brits see in her. I share your love for it. She has seduced me with her siren song...a sound no longer to be heard. I imagine the howl could be felt. I imagine that sound sent chills up the spine. Some group of investors could take interest in her, rebuild two or three of them and make a ghost squadron of them...fly them to air shows...let the old retired original pilots have the honors. There's probably not the parts available to make this happen for even ONE airworthy bird, though. The project would quickly approach a one hundred million pound price tag, having to build all new parts, deal with the HUGE maintenance burden. Her Majesty saw fit to retire this for good reason, I'd imagine.

I remember in the 80’s during Abbotsford (BC Canada) international airshow. We were sitting on a small hill a short distance from the airport when a Vulcan flew over. I never forgot the crazy howl and the apocalyptic levels of noise. That was the heyday of airshows in Canada with so many cool aircraft flying but the Vulcan really stole the show for me that year. Now we have portable screens instead of SSTs and space tourism. Who else out there feels ripped off?

I miss this old I've been at airshows my whole life, seen many Vulcans, but this particular one is so familiar, and such a huge joy to see and hear, even if only on film now. . After all these years, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and I have a tear in my

The RAF had a squadron of these at Offutt AFB, Nebraska (at the time home to the Strategic Air Command) in the early 60s. I loved watching the Vulcans take off.
