Hear me out. They said they could split inside of Buu because he disrupts the potara. Wouldn't it be so funny if Kibito and Shin ended up eating the fusion bug Goku bought and that's how they fuse again? And since they didn't fused with the potara, this time they'd need the dragonballs to unfuse

Inconsistencies like this crop up in the series from time to time cause the late Toriyama was notorious for forgetting aspects of his own series! Goku using the Power Pole to travel to the Moon in Dragon Ball, but can't breathe in a vacuum in DBZ & DBS (save for fighting Beerus near space in God of Destruction Beerus Saga), in the manga Future Trunks identifying the Androids as 19 & 20 in the Trunks Saga only for him to later reveal it was 17 & 18 in the Androids Saga (this is due to Toriyama's original intent being that 19 & 20 would be the Androids but his editor disliked the designs which lead to them being replaced with 17 & 18, witn 16 & Cell being added as well, however when they translated that chapter into English Trunks still warns the others about 19 & 20 in the English DBZ manga showing it wasn't corrected even in the English manga)! Another inconsistency actually occurs during Goku & Vegeta's reunion with each other during the End of Z aka Peaceful World Saga where they claim to have not seen each other since Pan was born which contradicts DBS (though in this case its cause Toriyama originally intended to end the DB manga and hadn't planned on any stories set between Kid Buu Saga & Peaceful World Saga until he came back to the series with his involvement in the DBZ Battle of Gods film which lead to Resurrection F and eventually the new manga/anime series Dragon Ball Super (the inconsistency is still present though its possible that should DBS manga get to the End of Z period it could get retconned by Toyotarou as DBS seems to be leading to the End of Z with Uub's reoccurring appearances in DBS which minimizes his interaction with the main cast, with Dende observing him and asking Goku to train him someday and his encounter with Grand Supreme Kai/Good Buu during the Moro Saga being chalked up to a daydream by Uub)! This inconsistency is simply the result of Toriyama's decision to set the films and DBS before the End of Z and forgetting that particular scene probably cause of how many years had passed since he wrote it! Still DBS & Daima are considered canon even with these inconsistencies as DB manga is no stranger to retcons creating inconsistencies in older material cause Toriyama hadn't planned on them and DB has a history of 4th Wall breaking and Toriyama himself made an appearance in the Fusion Saga via his in universe avatar Tori-bot as part of a gag where Krillin called Toriyama out cause he photocopied the manga panels of the fusion dance forcing him to apologize (Toriyama brought back a lot of humor from early DB to the Buu Era DB manga)!

My theories is that there might be some momment where they need to fuse using that bug item goku bought in demon realm. And because the fusing method are different than potara they might not be able to split using the same method like they did in early daima so they use dragon balls to do it
