that's what i've learned, taking profit of the time of winter recess (i'm in the southern hemsphere, in an accelerated and utterly intense re-reading of Aristotle, Descartes, Hume and Kant), that everything in continental philosophy is necessary if we want to understand the tradition. The importance of Logos, which was a presuposition in Aristotle, doesn't become obvious and explained until Kant has to confront Hume. All of them, Aristotle, Aquinas, Duns Scotus, Descartes, Spinoza... until Hegel, all of them add in a continuous thinking of beings, whether as """appearances""" or """things on themselves"""

The tradition of commentaries is one of Continental Philosophy’s greatest strengths—for instance, Hyppolite, Kojeve, and Houlgate on Hegel, as well as Heidegger, Jaspers, and Bataille (often not acknowledged) on Nietzsche. I am always intrigued by thinkers who engage with the canon, provide some elucidations, and even new insights on how one might read primary texts.

Now, the end goal would of course be to write a highly original work of philosophy, such as Spengler’s “Decline of The West!”

I don’t disagree. I think Meillassoux’s apres la finitude is the closest thing that comes to mind. What is causing the predicament? Do you discuss this somewhere?

I agree. It reminds me of what Michel Foucault could already say in his time, especially in "L’ordre du discours" ("The order of discourse").

I was surprised by how little Bernardo Kastrup relates to the history of philosophy (though he does to Schopenhauer) in his PhD Thesis, given how well known he is and how much he is indebted to the entire German idealist tradition.

Sloterdijks spheres trilogy; Agamben's work concerning the community and, biopolitics; Espositos work on immunity, community, and biopolitics; Bohmes work on atmospherics, etc. No?

Joahannes what about the so-called Hegel renaissance representing for example by Terry Pinkard and Robert Pippin. Heidegger will unfortunately have a hard time given the revelations from the archives and the herd like nature of academia.

'commentaries on commentaries'; maybe it's likely we are ambushed by too much pre-existing thought and concepts and it's plenty just to decipher and reformulate what already exists. from what has been bandied about in many forums (and decidedly here) we need a new techne' to reveal/animate the beautiful and humane.

Reza Negarestani is perhaps an exception, but otherwise you’re right.

I think Slavoj Zizek‘s „Less than nothing“ is the closest we got.
