Best Budget (~$100) XLR Microphone Setup + Tutorial

Having a cheap microphone setup is pretty difficult. Chances are it sounds pretty bad. In this video, I show you my microphone/audio setup which costs about $100 total. This XLR setup video thing shows you all the gear that is required to convert your beautiful voice into electronic signals. Keep in mind, the Behringer XM8500 does make your voice sound a bit deeper than it is, which can be a good thing or a bad thing.

This is basically the system I've been using for years, just with a Behringer U-Phoria UMC22, another budget interface, and an Audio Technica AT2035, it was $200 when my dad bought it, but he bought if for recording, and got a better mic later on, and I got his old one. I can tell you from experience, if you are using a cheaper audio interface, then make sure to be very careful with the usb-b port on the back, mine ripped of, but luckily I had another jack lying around and I can solder. Honestly not sure how you don't have 100k yet, you deserve it, but keep posting, your vids are great, have a good day.

Very solid setup! I get virtually identical sounding results with a BM800 cardioid (with pop filter, shock mount and arm of course) and a Behringer UMC22 and everything essentially costs the same. (With some post-processing I don't even need to use the UMC22.)

One quick note about phantom power, most if not all condenser mics do actually do much better with phantom power and you can get cheap mics to sound great using it. It is extremely rare to have phantom power actually damage a condenser microphone, just do a tiny bit of research on your specific microphone to see what the manufacturer recommends but you are generally fine with nearly all of them.

The daily driver ever since the coof shut down the world.

Since the M-Track Solo wasn't a thing yet, I had the UM2. Still a solid voiceover setup in 2022.

This is my exact setup (and has been for awhile) and I can attest to the fact that this is the best bang for your buck. The M-Track interface is solid for vocals (not so much if you plan to use it to drive monitors or headphones, though), and the Behringer XM8500 is shockingly cheap for what it is (sounds great and has a solid metal chassis).
