are these editing features only available for paid users?

I was trying to do this with a regular OpenType Font (OTF) and I couldn't get the white out of the text. I had used an OpenType Font-SVG (scalable vector graphics) and it worked perfectly. The OTF-SVG fonts are also called "Color Fonts". I'm learning. I guess that's why it didn't work on regular OTF.

Why isn’t this working for me. When I go to remove the background it removes the yellow but keeps the white writing
