Our Open Letter to Chancellor Rishi Sunak | Campaigns | Shelter

Shelter and 38 Degrees, along with a host of other charities and an incredible 140,000 members of the British public, have joined forces to call on the Chancellor Rishi Sunak to increase the support available to renters.

We hear from people every day through our helpline who are struggling to make ends meet. If people aren't able to pay their rent now, their debt will keep building and we could be facing an evictions crisis when the ban lifts.
To make sure people can afford to stay in their homes, we are asking the Chancellor to enact these measures:

• Increase housing benefit so it covers the average cost of renting across the country,
• And lift the benefit cap to ensure that everyone can access the support they need to cover the cost of their rent and essential living costs.
