Wow, you learn something new every day ... I never knew that those little flaps on the I/O shield were for grounding, and I've been building PC's for twenty odd years ... Cheers Brian ...

most of these are common sense, if anyone is going to make those mistakes then they should perhaps be getting a pre built or someone else to build it. As for ESD, if in the UK or simular climates, build if possible in the summer ( more humidity = less chance of static ) also get naked ( less clothes = less chance of static )

How about not using a decent led flashlight light to check your work...or not having proper lighting...

I honestly find it appalling you didn't use your wireless anti static wrist band, an allen wrench, thermal paste applicator or at least a swiss army knife. Despicable. UNSUBBED.

hey brian, happy newyear, im back, had no internet from 30/12 till now, my IP tech had to put a new wall sockett in pfff, all good now, exept, i bought a new state of the art router (AC2200), and a new dongle (AC) for my computer, but the two still connect in old style BG, any tip or suggestion brian so that i can use the 5 mhz AC) band instead of the 2.4mhz (BG)

Buying a case.... space being the base priority....
Does the drive cage, when loaded...
overlap the MoBo physically ??
Space in the case... aids in cooling.
Airflow IN should be DUSTLESS.

I have built a few PCs over the years. It never occurred to me that the PSU wouldn't fit my ATX case. They had always fitted before. It took a bit of case modding, but I got it done.

Static is a problem! Fortunately I was not building a PC at the time. I went to change the volume on my hifi amp (in the days before remotes for amps), the statis discharge was so large that it caused a small split in the skin on the end of my finger. I could see the arc clearly and it was in daylight.

Hi, some slot shields for motherboard ports are coming with extended iron in the slots, in other words you have to cut these with cutter or leave them bended? If you not understand reply to email you a picture

one more easy way for AMD CPU installing correctly- RYZEN logo must be aligned to that gray plastic thing on MB socket.

Is there a sight where you can select a PC you want to build and helps you point to the various components you need to purchase and alternative upgrades. I would like to build one but I want to avoid buying an undersized part or for a few dollars I could pick an upgrade with more power. Anything like this exist?

Liked, and shared! Brian, this is very informative for first-timers. The biggest concern would be insufficient thermal paste in the CPU, a weak power supply, and not seating the RAM properly.

Thank you for covering all of these common problems. Cheers.
