Here's an interesting fact about navel oranges. Navel oranges are seedless. Of course, every fruit needs seeds to propagate. Navel oranges don't have them, which means the tree that the first navel oranges came from was a sterile mutation. It was one of a kind. It would have lived alone as an anomaly, except that the woman on whose land the tree grew noticed the seedless fruit and realized that this might be something worth preserving. She grafted branches from the navel orange tree onto other trees and the other trees could then produce seedless oranges. Every navel orange you ever ate or saw came from a grafted offshoot of that first mutated orange tree.

That one and only original navel orange tree still exists. It's called The Parent Washington Navel Orange Tree. It is in Riverside, California and is a California Historic Landmark.

This looks AMAZING. I think the things that's missing is the translucency. Oranges have that thin membrane that looks almost like a paper thin water balloon, you know? I have no idea how someone would accomplish that in this medium. Then again, I didn't think plastic was possit either until I saw the steak cake, which was 100% convincing

This is brilliant but I think what makes it nearly impossible is the way that the orange is kinda translucent, so it lets a bit of light through, unlike a cake!

I wonder if the orange inside needed to be slightly paler somehow, i feel like some of your pith fight was because of the contrast between the colour of the orange flesh and the pith. Still an excellent job though as per usual! Navel oranges are my favourite!

It could’ve use a bit of pith in the centre and a tad more blending/thinning on the thick bit of pith but overall it looks amazing if I hadn’t watched the video I’d be convinced it was real
